I did yesterday.
I had my first ever bout of stubble racing on Hovis and LOVED it.
I have been too much of a wimp to do it the last year I had him and hubby has always taken him. It was an off comment by hubby the other day about the stubble starting to be ploughed that made me think "not this year - this year is MY year to do it".
So yesterday to the surprise of the lovely lady who nannies me out hacking I asked if we could have a blast across our YOs stubble fields. OMG. I am such a fool to have missed out for so long!
Hovis was a star (if v v fast - we left our nanny standing!!), responsive, not strong, not silly and pulled up as soon as I asked. I have missed out on so much because of my nerves but I am SO proud of myself - I grinned like an idiot all day yesterday!!
Onward and upward!
 
Well done you! Been there, done that and know exactly how hard it is and just how great it feels. Bet you are still grinning today! Can't wait to hear what Hovis thought ...
 
Gotta say I'm in awe. I've got the chance to do it on Sleepy D in a 40 acre field and I think I want to do it but I'm so bricking it... was it really that good? Help?
 
I had my first one the other day, was on my own though so had to race the wind!!! (the weather type, not mine lol!!)

Lovely to blow the cobwebs away!!! Well done you!!!

It was AWESOME.
Hubby has always said i would be amazed at how fast Hovis really is and I never really believed him.
Good god! We now have the issue that we have no one to go with who can keep up! It was amazing. The exhilaration was just great.
We made them trot across a field of stubble first then went for a huge blast. After that we went down the road and into another stubble field and just walked and trotted to stop the horses thinking they can run the first time their feet hit stubble and it was all fine.
One word of warning though if you have a hot horse - a girl at our yard has taken her boy stubble racing for the firts time this year (our YO owns 4,500 acres) and now she can't stop him out cantering! He's 18 and is behaving like a 4 year old!!
I can't wait for my next hack!!
 
whoop whoop, I must admit I havent been brave enough to let Saf go for a while now cos we hack on our own.

Will hopefully meet you at that clinic on friday, minus the Saf...

Oops. I'm balanced between the AWESOME bit and the fact my boy is actually 5 anyway... oh and er, an ex-racer? Bedbug tells me to stop saying that but it's always in the back of my mind...

OH gaawwd decisions decisions... Even more respect to you :) Dammit. Feel like I'm missing out now. so much for wuss solidarity. Hmmph.

You've got 40 acres to pull him up!! Hovis went stubble racing for the first time when he was 4 so thats no excuse!! (Admittedly not with me but I am a wimp!!)
Go on - lets be brave together. You can't possibly be a worse rider than me and I lived to tell the tale!
 
Well done the both of you!

We still don't have stubble fields but the mere thought of them makes me get butterflies!

My Arab can shift like nothing I've ever sat on before, having had a Highland pony then a WB who both had strong well paced gallops to get on a Arab the difference is like thunder and lightening, she's so light and everything is power from behind, the head stays up, mane in your face, hands up the side of her neck...CAN'T WAIT!!!

I keep telling his Dad untill you have just let loose and galloped across a big open space you have never ridden.

You get to the end and your eyes are streaming and you have this big silly grin on your face

.....Now with this challenge laid down and if I make him drink a bottle of rescue remedy first hopefully we will be posting in a couple of weeks about how much fun the 2 of them had.
