Today, when the rain stopped, I made a potentially stupid idea; to ride Danny, my 5 year old 14hh cobalob to my house' xD
I have always dreamed of riding to my house ever since I was a little kid, and, funny enough, I always imagined myself riding some sort of black horse, haha.
Danny hasn't got much experience on roads or houses or cars at all, as I mostly ride him on the mountain. I was perfectly prepared to turn around halfway if he began spooking too much, in fact as I was going through the lanes, I kept reminding myself that if I fall off try to keep hold of the reins (Not that that would happen anyway' xD) and try not to die. xD
Danny actually shocked me, he didn't proper spook once, okay so he did see a few imaginary scary objects on the side of the lanes and just side stepped away, but he didn't bolt or do anything silly at all. He did have a proper look at unfamiliar puddles and drains and tarmac, but again he went past them with no real problem!
What made me laugh is that we rode past a few barking dogs, and the dope didn't bat an eyelid, however as soon as a leaf or bush rustle he jumped as if he expected a giant monster to get him or something!
I think he has things a bit mixed up, dogs are predators, Danny's fine, bushes aren't, Danny's terrified. XD

My parents were not expecting to see me at the house, and when I called my dad who was in the garden, he was almost in shock! I let Danny go on my front lawn and eat away all the weeds, well not all, but most. People walking past were staring at us like 'WHY is there a horse on someone's front lawn?!' xD
A few of my neighbours came up to Danny and petted him, commenting saying that I have a very big dog. xD

So yes, that was mine and Danny's little adventure' :3 I never realised how much he actually trusted me before today, as everytime he saw something 'scary' he'd always flick his ears back at me and calm down once I started petting and talking to him, bless his cotton socks! <3 I am so proud of him, he had quite a big dinner and lots of fuss afterwards! But he wasn't that interested, he just wanted to go out! xD

Here's some pictures of him at my house:

Have any of you ever ridden to your house? I'd be interesting in hearing your stories! <3

When I was in my teens we often rode through our little town centre. I rode my pony to college once lol. We used to ride to the local public football pitch/dog walking field and gallop across it through the middle of the players!

To my house? Yep
To my work? Yep
To my friend's house (where her mad old granny was determined to make my horse a 'wee sandwich')? Yep
Through the drive through McDonalds? Yep

I ride everywhere :D Lovely pics :)

My house is around the half way mark of a 2 hour ride I used to do. So me and a friend used to drop in and mum would come out with carrots and juice. After 10 mins or so we'd go finish the ride :D

ROFL Did you get odd looks in the mcds drive through??
You should have pics of that!!!!

We drove one of ours to my friends last Saturday unhitched put him in a stable had a drink and a chat hitched up drove home felt very traditional .
Bet your dad got a shock OP.

Yeah we had our shows across a field from my house! :D
Took me 20 mins to get home and then I'd nip back for my class and then go back!

Did the ride home from my yard once, took me 2 hours there 2 hours back (horse very fit at the time!) - lots of one way systems and we nearly got squished by a metal works truck! Also did McDs drive through - amazing - although when they gave me my food, Kelly absolutely crapped herself and shot away from the window!!!!!!
K x

I only live round the corner so its more riding past on the way somewhere else. Frequently used to walk daughters pony home in-hand before it was broken, & put her in the garden for a bit, or friends gardens, complete with kids, dogs, trampolines etc. She also goes in the garden when daughter has bday parties. Like rhino, also ride to friends, McDonald's drive thru, chip shops etc. Been to ice cream vans too if I spot one out hacking.

Haha, sounds like a lot of fun!
When Danny gets fitter and more used to town stuff and moving plants, I'm hoping to go a lot further, perhaps to my nan's house! My nan is always complaining about the grass in her garden is getting too long, so why not get a free, eco-friendly lawn mower aka Danny? xD

I rode my pony home once when i still lived with my parents, i stoped at my friends house first to give her and her sster a ride. I left my mother in the front garden holding my pony (she hates horses!) while i had my lunch, but i was pretty sure she wouldnt do anything silly.

Yup! I used to ride over all the time.
Since we lost Archie and my horsey friend (who live 6 doors down from me) stopped riding with me, I haven't really been.

Yep! Loads of times. I used to walk my horse right up to the front door and get my mum to make me a cup of tea and a sandwich!

Thanks! (:
Haha, it's really funny being on a street where no horses really go as there is a dead end, all the people walking past looked so shocked, as if they never seen a pony before! xD

We have to watch daughters pony doesn't attempt to get in through the doors to the house. Excellent bombproofing letting them graze under washing line on a windy day, just not too good for the washing!

We boxed up to take G to a hunt meet on NYE, taking place at the local farmers club on the outskirts of the town centre and less than 1/4 mile from my house - missed turning for field where everyone else was unloading so parked outside mine and he was ridden down a cycle path from there!! (how rebellious) Got a few admiring looks and comments enroute :)

There are often trotters 'parked' outside too tethered to a tree and unhitched whilst the drivers have a pint or two...lol...at the pub next door so horses aren't uncommon weirdly!

Yes used to do this alot when I lived at my parents, have even taken my baby cob there in the trailer just for practise at going places!

My old mare used to get freaked out at first at being in the garden but soon you could shut the gate and leave her there to wander round and munch.

Here she is being helpful and doing some pruning.

Yep all the time now he is just round the corner :D I have several photos of him with his head through the front door. We quite often stop by on the way back from a hack especally if mums in as she always finds him something to eat and then he gets to tidy the lawn up.

I have a few times! Once was to clip my pony out, (13.2 cob) and my nan opened her kitchen door and he walked straight in! Broke a tile and her toe, another time was to show him off to my bamp who was incredibly proud of me as I was only 8!! Such good memories, I can't wait to get out and about with my boy and create some more :D

Very regularly!!

We used to keep the ponies on allotments in the village - no running water or electric- so baths & clipping all had to be done at home in the back garden (middle of an estate)

Then the farrier figured if he did them at home he got a cuppa & a bacon sarnie so they used to go home for shoes too!! The neighbours kids used to sit on the fence & watch :D

Also ride upto MiL's too for all the oldies to see - they love it!!

What a lovely story and lovely pictures too, nice bond between you and your horse.

I live in a very built up area so we have no choice but to use roads everywhere we want to go and i've ridden home lots of times, my mum is scared stiff and does that full arm stretched pat on the forehead thing while the horse bats its eyelids !

When I had my first pony I used to ride him home nearly every day, untack, put him in back garden eating the grass, till I was ready to go back then tack him back up and go back to yard, this was nearly every day, I have lots of photos of him in my back garden which was just a normal sized garden and in the end looked like a paddock, when i think back now i can't believe my dad used to let me do it.

I used to ride to my friends house too and her mum also let him in her back garden so same thing would happen round her house, sometimes though I used to forget I went round by horseback and go home without him, get a phonecall to say don't forget Sultan is still in the garden ! he was such a great little pony he didn't care aless.

2 of my horsey friends who came to my wedding, left early from the party afterwards. once the party was over (it was a lunchtime do and I was pregnant so very tired) I went up for a lie down, and my mum came bursting in and said 'look out the window' so i looked out my bedroom window and my 2 friends had ridden my horses from the yard to my house so they could say 'happy wedding day' to their mummy :D

best wedding present i could have had, without a doubt xx

My house is 4 miles away and my horse isn't perfect in traffic, but I decided one Sunday that I would hack home. It was nice and quiet, buses only run once an hour so I didn't have that to worry about :p

I then took him to the field behind my sisters house and had a good old canter while some boys were having a football match :p

As a child had the horses at home on the farm but
Did ride my horse to school a number of times he was then used in the art life drawing class.
Have ridden horses to Army quarters in Germany and Church Crookham. To graze the lawns.
Have ridden to my current house but get a little worried about the main road we have to cross.
