Ever seen anything this tiny? (and some advice please)

JoC & 4Whitelegs
Glad we can agree to differ without resorting to personal insults.

I spot the hay (and thanks for the link to Specsavers...but not quite needed yet LOL). Do you wear glasses or contacts, then?
But I also spot two chairs and what looks like a table...pretty well equiped furnishings for a barn...all that's missing is the chaise longue for the broodmares to recline on!

This woman happens to use this space as storage . She has one half of it packed with her belongings and the other half packed with hay. Not that I see any relevance to this or any need for it to be a concern of anyone.

I have (as I said) some very comfy furnishings in part of my barn. I find it odd that this is so comical to you. I love setting out there and listening to my horses much hay and relax. I love sitting out there when it is raining listening to the rain hit the metal roof. I love being out there more than in my own house in fact!

It is why I have my horses at home and live in the country....I want to be aound them. Not just when I am riding, but all the time.

I must be awful for that I suppose

As far as being able to agree without insulting people............

I certainly would have been receptive to your feelings about miniatures needing to be treated as horses if you kept your posts to me anythng less than insulting and (imo) odd. It closed me off to you and made me value your opinion less .
I just felt your first post to me seemed very opinionated with little fact to back it up. You based a serious feeling on a picture that was snapped in all but a few seconds and even still your arguments were not valid based on obvious evidence in the pic.

Sorry it offends you so badly that we wanted to look at the little foal in the 'barn'

The vet had not been booked at that point (we talked her into it) and she called us over to see what we thought. Suppose we had to look at him to do so
smirk.gif

Not really needing to justify why we picked him up, but we did. In fact we carried him all the way into the barn from his field so that he wouldnt run away
shocked.gif
. Best choice I felt we made at the time. Not feeling awful about it either.

Sorry it offends you so badly that we could not resist the picture of him while we had him in her arms. It was just so beautiul and I wanted her to have that picture as she may be funding his treatement and he may be her at weaning.
Again, a choice I made at the time and do not see any major future damage from it.

I do agree that minis should be treated as horses. They ARE horses. But the fact is that they are oddities and curiosoties to some extent.
If there were not people that found these little horses endearing and wanted them for pets they would have no real future and many would not have homes. They can be shown and driven, but most people buy them on cute factor as pets and spoil them like babies. I would prefer to see this than what I saw at the other "farm" that day
mad.gif

I agree that they should live outside (although I have brought Cashew into my house on several occasions just for fun!)
I agree they should be fed, treated, and cared for as any other horse................................
BUT if people want to spoil and animal and have fun with it I see no harm as long as the animal is safe and well cared for.

I am sure most large horses could live just fine without all of their "rugs" or stalls etc. But if an owner wants to do it so be it. I have yet to see a wild mustang rugged.
smirk.gif

Is that treating them like "horses"?

I think your oringinal feelings could have been valid but I think you targeted the wrong people here and post after post just became stranger and stranger.

that is all

Furnishing your horses' barn is a little strange...as is preferring to stay out there with them
smile.gif

I think we are agreed about horses being treated as horses - living outside, in a herd environment,
But I also think that the people who treat them, and 'spoil them like babies' are doing it for themselves, not the horses' welfare (and IMO this includes carrying little foals about etc).
It is good to see the foal and his (?) dam out in a paddock in your later pictures.
Best of luck with him/her.

Thank goodness we're not up the pub-we'd all be out in the carpark!!
laugh.gif

Jade, could it be that your mini is suffering from 'dwarfism'? Thimbaline(?) the samllest mini has it and her legs are pretty much bent like yours
ooo.gif
. Hope its just a temporary 'bend' and he straightens out on his own. Mairi.

Hopefully the Vet can give you some answers, and that treatment, or just time, will sort things out.

By the way Jade, I have an armchair in my barn too, the cats (and, bizarrely, the tame/free range rabbit) all love it.
smile.gif
I also unearthed a brand new range (as in oil fuelled oven) in the one stall we still haven't emptied.......problem is that we will have to pull the stall wall down to get it out!

Perhaps our barns have more space than Shilasdairs though.

Perhaps! lol

Most people I know also have to use the large barns for multi purpose use and i know mine is not solely dedicated to horses. It is storage, horse supplies and hay, hang out spot away from house and kids and a small workshop area for Merrill. A fully functional mutli purpose space for many things!
grin.gif

I also have a wood stove out there but refrain from using it as we have a ton of hay in the "party barn"

I find it strange that anyone thinks it odd not to want to hang out in the barn with the horses

I would also rather see them spoiled (even for our sake) than neglected , starved or not worried about at all.

I have an update I am posting now about the mini if anyone cares

It might be strange in England, but it isn't over here; it's perfectly normal over here for people to have furniture of some description in their barns. Most people have chairs and tables in their barns over here....often with a refrigerator, drinks, tables etc etc.

Jade; I hope little foaly can be helped and hopefully the leg will straighten or be mended.

This forum is the pits today; I can barely get on and so many of those darned error messages

Errrrr... this is in our hay/feed room... in England... It contains Asti's cool boot and beer...

DSC01052.jpg

Nothing like being able to sit in the sun (in chairs we keep there) in the field, drinking beer and spending time with the ponies. We also have kettle/tea making stuff... all in the hay/feed room.

Can't see why on earth its wierd. We spend so much time with the horses, may as well be comfortable!

Anyway, foal is very sweet - I hope you can get him fixed up. Our TB had wonky legs as a foal and had staples in her knees to correct it. Good luck!
