Ever wondered what the price is for the most expensive horse

When you're paying £4k a race pretty much for even the lower end affairs, I suppose you tend to be the richer members of society. But that is a different world!

Can you imagine forking out $15 then it arsing about and not been able to be ridden?? Wonder how much the insurance would cost them? More money than sense but there again i wish i had $15 i sure as hell wouldn't spend it all on one horse.

I thought I'd read somewhere that racehorses are not insured, as they are worth so so so much money but in such a high risk sport/ catagory, so no company will cover it. Did I imagine that?

Some are, some aren't , same as any other horse.....plus if you can afford to buy a well bred yearling then you can afford the insurance !

A friend of mine was dating a guy who worked and lived at an aristocrate owned racing yard in Bucks last year and we went for Boxing day lunch at his house. We got a tour of the yard and fields. All were turned out and not rugged which surprised me no end, lol ... Saw some beautiful yearlings and met a broodmare who was supposed to have been the most expensive broodmare ever brought at something stupid like £15million! ... turned out in December with other broodmares with big fluffy coats and no rugs .. It did make me chuckle :)

She is the highest priced yearling filly to sell at auction. She is by Galileo and is a full sister to this years Oaks winner Was.

Well worth the money on paper. Time will tell if it is money well spent.

Gray's year older, much more talentrd but not as pretty sister sold for $15.5million as a broodmare but she had won some serious races and serious prize money. She stood 2nd by less than a neck behind Ouija Board in 2 Breeders Cups and 3rd less than a length behind Film Maker and Ouija Board in her last Breeders Cup. Well worth the money.

Wasn't Shareef Dancer the most expensive ? As a 3 yr old he was sold for $40 million in 1983.

Who was the wonderful youngster that went for £9 million at auction recently ?

Green Monkey was hellishly expensive - highest price at an auction for a good number of years - he was epically useless as a racehorse.

Electrocutionist was all very exspensive, cant remember how much but many millions, at leadt he was good before he died so kind of paid some money back.

I used to ride a horse that sold for 6million Francs as a yearling - never won a race, not even a point to point! This horse was by Sadlers Wells and out of an Oaks mare, started life at Coolmore abd was a less than a length 3rd at Royal Ascot on his first ever run as a 2yo and it all went down hill from there!

She is the most expensive female TB to go through the ring in Europe and the most expensive yearling in a long time! I got all excited as we had a lot of the other horses bought by that owner, sadly she was whisked away to France before we got to see her. They had to put a person outside her box to stop people pestering her after she went through the ring. Everyone wanted a photo!

Years ago I was at Tattersalls when a colt sold for 10.5 million, a record at the time I believe, it was a racing failure.....and I think it was gelded. Small change for an Arab organisation!

In the 70's my father was asked to ride the most expensive yearling at that time (10.2 m dollars) on Sunday mornings, when no one was around as it was so useless. They were worried that if it ever raced in public its value would plummet.
He was called Snaafi Dancer and was bought from America with much hype, and pumped full of steroids in preparation for the sales.
They sent him off to stud saying he was injured in training only to find he was infertile!

How times change. Years ago Derek Rickett's jumped a mare called Beau Supreme and at 75 k she was one of the most valuable showjumpers around! Sadly she broke a leg at HOYS after getting tangled with a pole.
