Following placing an ad 'loving home offered for older chihuahua or similar' I confirmed a 'deal' with a lady on Preloved and arrangements made for her to deliver to me this morning. It was an older dog, 5 1/2 years and has been a stud. He was close to home, a breeder in Gosport. He wasn't a freebie, far from it, but I felt like he was 'the one'. She is giving up breeding wowas, concentrating on other breeds. I thought perhaps he was a commodity rather than a loved pet and I could offer a really loving pampered home.

I was devastated this morning when she and he didn't turn up. After several texts I got a reply that she wasn't coming. No explanation. I emailed, text, phoned, all ignored, until finally I got a text not to contact her I was a nuisance! I was totally floored and so upset. TBH, I knew things weren't right. She didn't seem genuine but I placed my faith in her nevertheless. Fool am I.

But I got a mail in response to my ad from a really lovely lady who had a young son and a baby on the way and things her little chi was unfortunately not getting as much attention as she would have hoped.

After emails to-ing and fro-ing, pictures, lengthy telephone conversations and FB contact, I am, hopefully, expecting a new arrival on Sunday. She does not want money, but if I could a donation to a charity would be wonderful, how lovely.

I feel her pain, I was in the same position when I had a new baby and living with in-laws. It was a hard decision for me but I know I did the right thing.

So all being well, I shall be posting some pictures of my 'new arrival' shortly.

So this morning it was cloudy, by this afternoon the sun had well and truly come out.

The prior sounds dreadful but your latter option sounds just right. lots of people start families and then can't cope with both the kiddies and the dogs even better that she is happy to have a donation made to charity, the breed rescue would appreciate the funds I'm sure.

Those are the sort that appreciate a photo and an update to let them know they are happy and well but small word of warning... they do on occasion as for the dog back having used you as free kennelling for a period of time so make sure you still get a bill of sale even if all it states is 'donation to rescue', their microchip (make sure signed for change of owners) and vaccination cards.

If pedigree ask for the breeder details, a good breeder will want to know where their dogs are even if they are rehomed and may offer you support.

If they are insured its worth asking if you can take over the policy if they have existing conditions you may not be covered if you start a new policy.

Hope you get your new additions

Sounds like the first dog was just a commodity to its owner, poor lad, she probably had someone offer her more money.:( Really hope the second one works out, personally I can't really understand why people give up on a dog (particularly a tiny one) just because they are expecting a baby, but sounds like her loss is your gain. Look forward to seeing pictures of your new arrival.

And where are the pictures ...? :D
