I am so very lucky to be owned by a 31 year old shetland pony, Pepsi. He is a rescue from a defunct riding school, and I bought him for €50 as a companion for Shy five years ago. We have been through serious colic, emaciation, bot worm infestation, chronic eye infections, Turkish slipper hooves, arthritis so bad he would rear when you tried to pick his feet out..and worst of all canker in his two front hooves that almost cost him his life ?.

I cannot imagine life without him, he comes out being led on every ride and is a true Thelwell boy ? Anyone else have an awesome shettie ?

Not now, but years ago we had two. One was bought for my son as a toddler to ride, who was an angel on 4 legs, and the other we loaned as a companion.

They were the most loveable little people - yes they could be mischievious, but such fun and huge characters. We kept my son's for several years after being outgrown but finally succumbed to selling him as just too good to be sitting in the field, and deserved to be loved by another child. The companion was duly returned to its owner......

Still miss the little buggers 10 yrs on.

Sadly no longer with us but little Pixie was the best ❤️ She was rescued as an abandoned foal dumped on a literal rubbish tip barely alive, had tried to eat anything to survive so had a colic op then was hand raised. She was the sweetest little lady despite her rough start but unfortunately she had to be put to sleep when the colic reoccurred aged 5.
Was gutted, people can be so cruel ☹️
