Just seen this on fb :

We have been contacted about this xl bullie boy. He’s 4 months old and is doubly incontinent. As you all know, we specialise in disabled dogs and would usually throw this lad a life line in a heart beat but we can’t legally rehome him after 31st December.

We have agreed to post him up to see if we can generate any interest of a forever home. We have until 27th when he will be put to sleep.

This boy wears nappies as he can not control his bowels or bladder and has back end weakness.

If anyone is interested in rehoming him please be aware you’ll have to go through the exemption process which we will pay for. Please also be aware we can’t legally offer rescue back up so we are not able to take this dog back . It would need to be a forever home as the only alternative would be death as ownership can not be transferred.

Yet again words fail me 😡

I'm sorry but the best thing for the poor dog is to spend a few last days being spoiled in whatever way suits him best and then euthanasia. Why on earth is he being subjected to wearing nappies? Why didn’t the breeder do the responsible thing?

Of course it would be best , but there seems to be this stupid “save everything “ approach nowadays . I don’t even think the breed is particularly relevant , no dog with those issues should be kept alive .

I wouldn't even do that. He should go immediately.

so if they think the dog should stay alive why don't they pay to take him to the vet and get a diagnosis to see if the problem could ever be resolved or if it is terminal in order that a decision based on actual facts could be made. That would be money better spent than paying for the exemption process and having a dog with lifelong problems.

That is such a sad case. Aside from the obvious issues of incontinence what kind of life is a dog of that size going to have with hind-end 'weakness'? It is also concerning that there is no mention of what the diagnosis is, or whether the dog has even been assessed by a vet.

I appreciate it sounds like the rescue is only sharing the information and it sounds as though they may not have actually seen the dog themselves, but I would have expected them to ask for that information.

It's not a group I follow but I've just found the post about him. Poor chap. It looks as if the blanket he has been lying on is soaking.

If someone decides to take him on it will be very hard work to keep him clean and dry to prevent urine scalding and dermatitis, like babies' little sore bottoms from wet nappies.

Pts would be a kindness though I wouldn't be surprised if someone comes forward and offers a home.

There are loads of people offering a home , including someone in NZ saying they’ll have him if someone pays for flight 🤦‍♀️

I presumed he likely already had a diagnosis

The rescues around me do the same, they spend loads of time and money on one physically or mentally unsound dog which could be spent on a dozen others.

At the moment they are trying to re-home XL Bullies before the end of the year. So many have behavioural & aggression issues with people and/or dogs.

There is a cat rescue near which spends ridiculous amounts of money on sick or injured strays, currently they are begging for funds for a stray found with 2 broken legs to have surgery . They state they hope to save the legs but he may lose one or even two . Surely pts would be the humane thing to do.

from my reading of that FB group there appears to be no veterinary input at all. Just poor dog is doubly incontinent we need to save the poor thing so it is going to need nappies forever. I think (from memory I didn't study it that closely) there was one with a similar problem with spina bifida. Something like that may be the cause here. One vet visit would surely give answer as to the dog's future.

From my reading those of you in NI and Scot. are going to be welcoming lots of bullies.

Totally agree, I don’t understand the crowd funding/desperation of rescues to save a disabled dog who should have been pts rather than undergo multiple painful procedures and the resultant cage rest. If it’s à privately owned dog, I get why people spend silly money on repairing à cruciate, but I think hard decisions need to be made if it’s not à reasonably easy fix, it’s pointless prolonging suffering. Made me so angry to see the vet’s receptionist leaving her incontinent due to spinal tumours dog in its bed when we’d just discovered the same condition with Jake and organised to have him pts at home the day following diagnosis. 🤬 This rescue needs to do the right thing and pts and unfortunately, the breed is relevant.

Words fail me too - that;s so effin cruel, best PTS now to reduce a lifetime of suffering - some people need to give their heads a wobble, so angry reading that.
