Everyday to do my horse (now in at night) it is 20 miles.
5 miles away x 4
Its a lot of fuel over the week!
How many miles does everyone else do for their horsey?

People with horses at home need not reply lol :p
(Not fair lol)

I moved 2 weeks ago but before then I was doing 38miles Round Trip each day (once a day I have AM turn out) so was doing 266miles a week to see my girlie

Now I have moved a few miles closer I do a 20mile round trip so only 140 miles a week

Yard approx 7 mile round trip so summer 49 a week (share jobs/checking with others).
In two or even three times this (depends what time they have to come in).
I WILL win the lottery and buy my own place :D

My yard is within 5minutes walking disance, however I hate it and would really love to move. The yard I want to move to is 9 miles away, so I would be doing 4 trips a day.

17.5 miles to yard from home, then another 9-ish to work and in reverse in the evening. Petrol bill is around £250 a month. At least I can do my shopping en route. This time last year it was costing me around £130 :(

My new yard will be 18 miles away. Except through some of the worst roads in south london for traffic, so the journey will averaghe 40 minutes on a good day. I will try and go every day but I doubt it'll happen, hence fulll livery!

I used to keep my horses at my mum's house which was 70 kms (1 hour trip each way), but I did not visit the horses every day, (unless she was away) usually 3 times a week. Now they are only about 30 kms (1/2 an hour) away. Much better, although I still do not go out there each day (unless mum/son away, then I do).

At the moment my yard is 4 miles away from home. However I get morning turnout so I go once a day. Not too bad you say? Well.
Its 18miles from work :D So its a 22mile round trip from work to horse to home. Today I will be doing 44miles because I brought her in this morning for Farrier (YO couldn't do it so I said I would).
However we are moving the office home soon so it will be 8miles once a day which will be fabulous. Plus I am on a 125cc scooter, It costs me £10 a week to run, even on that mileage :D

30 miles round trip once a day as pay for turn out in the morning and it worked out cheaper to do this than it would have on the fuel. I do work on route to yard at 9 miles so not so justify it that I have to drive half the distance 5 days a week any way.

20 mile round trip.

Have own stables / land but it's at my parents place so still have to drive to get there. Do have the added bonus of not doing them in the mornings as my Dad lets them out / changes rugs etc. *hugs for my Dad, without his help I would have major difficulties*

12 miles each way so 48 miles a day.
336 miles a week.
17472 miles a year just for the Destroyer (if i did him every day which i don't - holidays and such like)
Yikes no wonder my year old car has done over 18, 500 miles..........

Mine is a 35 mile/1 hr round trip. I pay to have him turned out in the morning and I go down every night. I absolutely hate doing the journey as it eats into the time I spend with him/riding etc as I'm always in a rush. It's a real shame as I really like the yard, great facilities etc but it's too far really

so has anyone ever shocked themselves over the cost of fuel? maybe i would be more cost and time effective to be on full livery or part livery? mind you saying that i kind of like the early mornings even in the dark.:)

jeeez, I'd never thought of it like this. I'm only 3 miles away, and can walk it in 15 minutes. 3 miles x 4 per day, x 7 = 84 miles a week.
That's crazy  I will have to try and walk it more!

Used to take me a good half an hour to the yard and half an hour back, so to get to work in time my day usually sharted at around 5:30am :(
Cost a bomb in fuel too.

We keep ours split across 2 yards and daughter and I split our time between the places to cut down on miles driven. The yards are 10 miles apart, each is about 5 miles from our house. Yard 1 is 3 miles from my work Yard 2 about 8 miles from my work. I tend to visit at least one of the yards twice a day.

So this morning I went to Yard 1- 5 miles from house, 8 miles from work, this evening I will go to Yard 2, 3 miles from work and then 5 miles home, about 21 miles, sometimes I have to hit them both twice a day which pushes the miles up.

I remember getting into a thing where I ended up taking my OH's nephew to Yard 1 a couple times a week and sometimes my OH would pay for him to have a lesson with a fellow livery. To do this meant driving 36 miles round trip each time and took (in driving time) nearly 90 mins (traffic and such) , I found that really hard to sustain so I tried to cut back to 1-2 times a month without offending anyone, offered to pick him up from town or at my OH's mum's (closer to my house) but that was too much effort. I felt bad because I know he was upset but I just couldn't keep it up

My new yard will be 18 miles away. Except through some of the worst roads in south london for traffic, so the journey will averaghe 40 minutes on a good day. I will try and go every day but I doubt it'll happen, hence fulll livery!

oh you must be coming down to my neck of the woods then - where did you plump for in the end? and the point about fuel is really relevant. I never really thought twice before about travelling my horse but with fuel costs so high am not prepared to go quite so far (says she who nipped up to Lincolnshire to see a horse last Friday..took pretty much the entire day!)

It is 5.5 miles each way for me I believe, and I go twice a day, so 22 miles per day to see my boy. That's not too bad considering how far some of you have to travel!!
