Edited to feature less details after seeing the threats of violence issues to a number of people posting about this event in a social media ‘area residents page’ by members of this breed community!

Will leave it as: Over the weekend there was a ‘XL bully meet up’ nearby - all I can say is the poor dogs. For so many reasons. When I got home I had a nose on some of the pet selling websites at this particularly variety of canine - clearly I need to buy a few and could then afford to give up my day job after a litter or two. Very depressing.

From speaking to friends in that area I believe many have contacted everyone from traffic enforcement to the dog warden to no success. Happens twice a year and is a big promotional thing for breeders throughout the region. Many will be traded via social media like a commodity. And thus the cycle is never ending

Police aren’t interested. Not breaching any laws according to various people locally who have mentioned about it - only parking restrictions hence involvement of traffic wardens. Sad state of affairs. The culture that goes alongside these dogs is concerning.

Ok this won't help with the actual meet up but if some of the vans selling the cropped puppies / with the AI going on in the back had kennel names & logos on then this may be a starting point for reporting them.

Will see if I can fine a designated place for reporting the cropped puppies as well as if they're under a certain age then it will have been illegal to import them meaning they've been illegally done in this country. RSPCA SHOULD be interested if there's an easily linked kennel name attached as that should raise likelihood of prosecution but we all know they can be a bit crap.

If I can't turn up anything can ask a colleague who used to work for them (& was one of the good ones) to see what she suggests

Edit: a quick research says that RSPCA should indeed take reports of cropped ears on puppies seriously, but the no on the page I've pasted in above may also be able to deal with that.

It might be worth giving the DVSA and VOSA the heads up next time there's a meet there -- the XL bully types around here seem to think that laws about tax, insurance, MOTs, and red diesel don't apply to them. VOSA love the chance to bump up their revenue so are practically guaranteed to attend!

Thank you. AFAIK, the rspca will have had several reports from this and other meets, with kennel names. It appears these meets up and down the country are well publicised on social media so not hard to find at all. A friend reported a breeder they became aware of through a friend of a friend, Instagram page open to public selling these types and others Icluding imported dogo argentines and what they claimed were filas. This breeder is still in business. Nothing done.

As a side note I entered an Instagram wormhole (I don’t have my own page but do have one for dog photos exclusively) of these types of dogs and their breeders -
HOW it is ALL so unregulated is beyond me.

Will bend the ear of my colleague to see if there's a way of escalating it / any "buzzwords" or phrases that force them to investigate if included in a phonecall. May be worth contacting trading standards though as I think they might have more powers to do something if they're a licensed breeder (& if they're not would expect they'd also investigate to see if they're breaking the law there as well & they would likely be interested in the totally illegal AI as well)
