I have no idea if this has already been posted, but if so, I hope all agree that it's worth posting again.

On Tuesday, World Horse Welfare had an extremely significant moment in their history when they handed over a dossier of evidence to the European Commission that was seven years in the making. The dossier contained ground-breaking scientific research on the long-distance transport of horses to slaughter. This is an incredible organisation and I have been lucky enough to get to know some of their staff - all of whom continue to fight on the front lines against horse abuse.

They have just released a video and a news release about this major moment in their history. I have attached the video, as well as a link to their community. If you have a moment, please watch the video, read their news release, leave them your responses and go to their Make A Noise link to sign their petition. Everyone can make a difference, so please pass this along.

Thanks for adding that link. Is that the same petition as the Make a Noise Petition? Sorry, I only know the people at World Horse Welfare and am trying to learn as much as I can.

We have major issues like this in North America, but we are not as organized. We need to learn something from the way the European horse organizations are getting organized.
 
Im not to sure what europe will do, as most of them eat horse flesh, but the real villans are the Italians as this seems the center of this barbaric trade.. if these savages must eat horses
then at least they should be killed at source and not hauled 100s of miles while cruelely treated and terrified .. we owe our equines better they have been our faithfull servants for thousands of years....
 
The Make A Noise petition is the WHW petition, and specifically concerns horses whereas the Handle With Care petition is attempting to regulate the transport of all animals destined for slaughter.

It is more important than ever to support these petitions. Smaller local abattoirs are closing now in France and there is a worry that the situation may head the same way as the UK went, with centralised abattoirs neccessitating longer journeys to slaughter. As it is, only certan abattoirs are licensed to slaughter horses, apparently it is forbidden to use the same facilities as the other meat animals.
If these close, the trafficking to Italy will increase.

This is just so sad and a huge task to undertake to stop. I have no problem with horses being sent for humane slaughter locally, sadly its something that will never stop but it should be on the hook not the hoof.
The barbaric handlers are just evil personified and have no respect for horses at all. However this happens all over the world with all sorts of animals they are just seen as a commodity and whether they are injured or not seems unimportant. I have a pretty strong stomach but I felt a pang in the bottom of my stomach watching this and particulary the tiny foals.
I truelly believe this should be shown to everyone not just us neddy lovers and it may move other parts of society to do something.
 
Thank you for posting this, it is very grim viewing.
If, for some reason, i could no longer care for my elderly mare she will be put to sleep at home. I would never part with her.
