Urgh. Took Morris to Oatridge SJ training night last night and it was the 1st time either of us had been (as far as i know anyway).
He was, as usual, an angel in the warm up, jumping pretty nicely and working really well.
So, since it was a new place I wasn't expecting to come home with a rosette, I was just looking for a nice, safe round.
When its my go, he canters in fine (usually his sticky point) but then stops at the 1st, which is unlike him. But the worst part was, he would just rear like a mentalist. We got over it the 2nd time (albeit from a stylish standstill). And he proceeded to do this nearly every jump except about 2. He stopped at number 5 (which did have avery scary CD fillers) at least 4 times, doing the stupid rearing thing. That really p*ssed me off.
Anyway got round relatively safely, but I was pretty fuming.
Then, as I thought he'd behave and had already paid for the 85cm, we went in for our second round. He jumped the 1st 3 fine (although again from a standstill) but got a bit sticky at the 4th - very scary pony fillers. He stopped, did the stupid rearing thing, I came back and he slammed on the brakes at the very last minute, I was on his neck, he spinned and i came off, except i caught my foot in the stirrup. He then STOOD ON MY LEG and then thankfully stopped. I was lying underneath him going ' please don't move please don't move!'. We're both fine tho, but I just can't help thinking, whats the point? He was going brilliantly at Dabbs, and I know this is a new place, but he was worse here than his 1st time at Dabbs (which was his 1st ever show!) Honestly would have taken a tenner for him last night.
And I don't even have an impressive hoof shaped bruise

sometimes they just dont like a place, my oldie has been everywhere you could think of including towerlands, arena uk, small places big places, indoor outdoor, but he hates BCA just never flows there and usually puts a stop in! 20 years on BCA is still not a place he performs...would go back to dabbs and see if it is a location issue....and work from there.

Poor you! Don't despair, Fly can either go brilliantly or bloody awful, sometimes I struggle (rearing etc) even to get him in the ring! He puts in dirty stops as well! Keep going back and keep trying, I am still trying to work out what is in Fly's head but I think it really is just down to how he feels on the day! It is probably a lack of confidence and the more you do the better he will get I'm sure. Best of luck to you, when he does a lovely round (and I am sure he will) it will all be worth it. xx
