This is gross but... over the last few weeks my mare has ended up with several of what I assume are infected fly bites on her udders. They are always on her udders or the surrounding skin, are quite big so must be from a big fly, really swell up and drip pus and blood for a few days. I clean them up etc but can anyone tell me

a) what kind of fly they could be from
b) a fly repellent that is effective against said type of fly
c) or could it be a reaction to the fly repellent?

the lumps are like giant spots and they are hot and painful but heal within 3 or 4 days.

My mare had one like that, kind od a big spot that was bleeding. I just put sudocrem (my answer to everything) on it and it went in a couple of days. I guess its somethin pretty nesty though that bit her

Yep, my girl had this too and still does get bitten on her ladies bits!!

I wash with Hibiscrub then slather in Sudocreme and keep spraying fly spray in that area.

I call her the Sudocreme Queen cos she is constantly having to have it applied somewhere or other. It's the best stuff though!
