I have taken on a young Frenchie from a customer (I run a boarding kennels) whose history is sketchy. I have had her just coming up 4 weeks.

What I know is she is just over 2 years old and has had at least 2 litters and possibly 3. The last litter was delivered by C-section and the vet suspects it was a DIY job judging by the scar.
She was apparently with the travelling community and then went to a one man band who badges herself as a rescue. She then ended up with my customer, who has 4 other Frenchie's. My Frenchie was extremely underweight and there was fighting with her dogs, I suspect over food. She is an absolute gannet and will scavenge if given the chance. When I asked my customer what she ate, she said anything. That is true but her tummy cannot cope, I started her on a good quality kibble. We quickly changed to raw and after a bit up and down, she has put on 500g.

Now to my question.
How do you house train a dog who will only poo in private? She will not poo all day and only go at night when she is alone.
She will wee outside and I give her a little treat to say well done.
As an example, today we have been outside for about 5 hours and she has only wee'd.
Tomorrow morning I will go in to at least 2, maybe 3 poos.

I am aware it is early days and I'm not in any hurry but I am stumped as to where to even start.
 
What surface does she go on overnight? Could you provide a tray of real turf or AstroTurf to get her into the idea?

Is there the possibility of keeping her out until she goes/wait her out?
 
Is she contained at night? Crate or shut in washable floor surfaced room?

I went back to puppy mode, crate with playpen attached, washable flooring. No joy till I did a midnight/1am walk briskly, then a slow section. Hurrah, a poo was produced!
However, I then shut her in the crate for the rest of the night and fished her out at dawn for another walk and then free time in garden. Over a week or so of this, we broke the poo barrier.
She wasn't a poo eater, so to also help things along, her poo was placed in the garden in the area I wanted to use, this helped the cue too.

Good luck, it's hard work, but at least yours is confined to pooping in dark hours lol x
 
She currently goes into a kennel overnight. She is happy to go in and only goes in there overnight, she is out and about or in the house during the day.
She was apparently crated all the time before my customer had her, she only had her for 3 weeks. I'm guessing her being crated all the time has something to do with her pooing when she is kennelled.

I have put a puppy pad in the kennel but she doesn't tend to use that.
We have progressed insomuch as she doesn't wee in the kennel now.

On the couple of occasions she has pooed in the house, she has done it behind furniture 🙈
 
Yeah, I think a lot of it is just time and consistency. It'll be tiring, but you'll get there. It's similar to a puppy in some aspects.

The poor girl though. It sounds like she had a rough life prior to being with you. Frenchies can be such friendly little trainable dogs. Atleast the ones that I've been in contact with. I don't support a lot of what goes on with them and the breeding of them, but they've really grown on me (as in I somewhat accept their existence 🤣) and I never thought they would! Probably because I've only met sweet ones.
