A happy little post, Had my lad for nearly two months now and he is a dream horse. I have always been a bit anti ex race horse, not in general but just not for me, I have always been under the impression that they are nothing but trouble that will leave you with huge vet bills, broken bones from getting ditched and nothing but stress. I've owned and worked with most types from warmbloods and irish type horses to trekking center cobs and think I was a bit brain washed by a small stint I did in racing. Well I eat my words!!! My boy is just a legend, he is so easy to do, he is great to ride, a bit spooky but thats no biggy. He is always pleased to see me, gives me no bother and is great around my young children. Im looking forward to a long, happy future with him and cant wait to start getting out and about with him and doing some comps. A very happy and very proud ex race horse owner :) x

Aww, welcome to the clan! I think they mostly get a bad press as too many people buy them because they are cheap and they end up in unsuitable homes. My 6yo is teaching my total novice OH and step daughter to ride and is a saint generally. People always say she's a one off as so laid back but I'm sure there are others like her that just aren't in the right hands. We manage her well and I keep her busy and take things slowly. Good luck x

Good for you. My friend has an ex racer and he is such a good boy, I had a bad fall from my horse recently and am riding the ex-racer to get my confidence back! Unfortunately for him he was too successful a racehorse for his own good and had a very hard ten years racing which has left him with some issues with his feet, but my friend wouldn't swap him for anything x

I'd actually really love an ex-racer for my next horse - I've currently got a hairy cob that I just adore beyond measure and he'll never go anywhere - but when I qualify and can keep horses at home I'll consider a TB as my second horse :)

Love them too. I've had so much fun with my boy over the last six years. I hope you enjoy yours as much. They are the most intelligent and loyal horses and get such a bond with their owners they are amazing.
