Has anyone done this, is it common? I did see that some top BYEH horses have been purchased from Brightwells sales, but wasn't sure if they were TBs...

I've recently acquired a young ex-racer, a gift from friends who own racehorses. He was a bit of a punt (couldn't turn down a free, healthy young horse basically) but he is actually REALLY smart, and my instructor, who events, was very impressed - he was 2 when I got him, just turned 3, only raced 9 times. He'll finish at around 16.1 I'd think, and is beautifully put together - good feet, compact, good bone, lovely paces.

I'm not an eventer myself - I tend to stick to producing now, but my instructor's daughter rides for me and she competes her own horse at 1* level, and is very good, 20 years old. We're thinking about BYEH for this ex-racer, and wondered if many people do this? It's great to have him so young, he's currently on rest as I had an accident and am off my feet for a couple of months, but in the Spring will be started and will be the same age as a 'normal' horse being started. He's very level headed, calm and sensible and very athletic.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!
