Ex racehorse owners..

thankyou so much everyone! i gave up searching but now have one of her old jockeys on facebook to annoy with many questions! hahaha im gonna join tomorrow so that i can see her, i still cant imagine her racing! wonder why she was withdrawn hmmm
the only thing i knew was her sire's and grand sire's name and i think her great grand sire won the derby :)
im so excited and i dont even know why!! hahah thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!

Have had both extremes - first one couldn't care less. Been there, done that attitude! Second one (quite a few years younger) was white with sweat after 15 minute drive (but travelled well) and grew 2 hands (already 16.3!!!). Took an hour to dry off and 15 minutes to get on! Friend who went with me thought he would kill me as soon as i got on but was fine after i finally managed to get on - back like a board for a couple of minutes then relaxed and was a very good boy. Then the tannoy kicked in!! Apparently he found his one and only race very exciting - it took a few outings and then he realised it wasn't that exciting and he was fine. They just need to know that they're not going racing and it will register. Some cope better than others.

Mine is fine at things held on a surface - if anything a bit backwards and lazy so we don't tend to do as well mark wise . Get him on grass and if I can survive the first hour which generally consists of bucking, rearing, spooking etc etc then he will knuckle down and we have come away with some fab results - 3 shows on grass last summer and we got two championships,4 1st and 3 2nd . He is more forward on grass and generally gives a better account of himself when he is in the ring. He is also better if I get off him ,half hour rest and then back on for a second warm up . He isn't a massive fan of collecting rings on grass either but will quite happily work around other horses on a surface.

i think i'll take her to a riding school to have a few lessons on her somewhere different before i go to a show, or speak to the organizers and ask if i can go early or something
i think she'll be okay, depends what mood shes in - sometimes things blow her brain and she doesnt settle for hours
