I am very confused by my lovely horses past!! I bought him from a riding school in the West Country where I worked last Spring. He is lame on and off and I would like to know contact details of previous owners to shed a bit of light on what must be an injury he sustained quite a long time ago.
I was told that he was an ex racehorse but I have since tried to search for him on the weatherbys website amongst other racing websites but to no avail!
He has a 'Percheron Horse Society' passport but I always thought all racehorses were issued with a weatherbys passport?? Is this true??
I managed to get in touch with the dealer that sold him to the riding school but he said that he didn't even know about horses he had in two weeks ago let alone two years ago??
Sorry, this never meant to be quite as long winded but is there any other ways in which you can trace ex racehorses?

Thanks in advance

Did he race in the uk? My lad is an ex racer and has a weatherbys passport....so did my last one. If i was you i would ring weatherbys-they are really nice and will give you advice

I checked on the RP site, he's certainly not raced in the last ten years in the UK or Ireland, if he still has his original name.
Does he look even remotely Percheron???????

How old is he? cos from a certain year, (I think 1997) all reg TB's had to be microchipped, if he is microchipped you could contact Weatherby's

Thankyou very much for checking for me!! and no, he doesn't look slightly Percheron haha!!
He isn't microchipped and it says on his passport that he was born in 1996, making him 11 so I guess I can't go down that route either.
Poor Fred, I hate not knowing his history but I guess thats the way the cookie crumbles sometimes!! I could always phone the dealer up again and beg haha!! Thanks everyone

There are a lot of people who "loose" a horses pprs when selling to hide previous contact details/age etc. Your horse may have also had a change of name. If his problem does relate to an old injury then it would make sense to loose his background. I had a mare that was reg with the PBA society but because I only sold my share the person could not get her passport from them so got it elsewhere. All her breeding details are now lost & if they had wanted to change her age they could do so. Before that I had to sell a 2yo that was freezemarked & was reg on the old HIS ID system, her details were never updated either. Dealers were the worse for passing on documentation if it is not going to increase the value of the horse.

I do sympathise as you very rarely find the histroy on alot of horses.

My boy came from ireland - really don't know what he did but know that he was hammered.

If I was you I'd put your horse on some sort of joint supplement and linseed oil - keeps my boy fine all summer but now have to take extra measures now the weathers getting colder.
