Ex Racer Sales ? Best place to find one?

Ascot, generally cheaper than Donnie - Doncaster generally sells those that will continue in some form of racing (Tricky Trickster made £320K at Donnie......!) Ascot often sells the not so good racehorses that have the ability for another job. As it happens I have 2 ex racers looking for new homes.....one for sale as a potential comp horse (he is lovely, still young, big, good looking, just not stay the distance for pointing) and one for loan, who is slightly broken, but fine for hacking / hunting / RC / dressage PM me if interested in either

Darley rehoming. They are the horses owned by the arabs that havnt made the grade. They run their own adoption programme. Google and it will come up. There is a page with all the horses on and what stage each one is at.

Ascot far more than doncaster if you are looking for horses out of training, but doncaster tends to get a better quality of horse, there can be some real dregs at ascot, if you know any local trainers, give them a call, as they may prefer to sell direct rather than incur the costs of entering the sale,

There are some cheap horses at donnie, but I am not going for an ex-racehorse but for a point to pointer for me! Soooo Excited!:D:D

Me too (re wanting a new pointer.....my 2008 Ascot purchases were so exciting, but sadly whilst lovely horses, did not prove their worth on the P2P circuit, though one did give me a 2nd and a 3rd.......) It is such a lottery buying a used racehorse unless one has £K's to spare......But ever the optimist I am off to Ascot either June or July to find a potential star under £3K......it can be done.......others have proved it, but I wish I was rich!!!

i am now going to show this post to my husband.... in my continued quest to get him to buy me another P2P... (having hung up my boots before i had kiddies, now i've started eventing again, i miss point to pointing, and i had some real dross!)

or second thoughts.... he'd probably kill me if i bought another horse!!

hope you both get something exciting

I have worked at a point to point since I was 14, but my boss is going to help me pick a horse, as she often buys for owners etc and really knows what to look for. I am looking for a safe jumper with a bit of experience for me to have a shot at racing!

I bought a lovely little Alderbrook filly from Ascot - £450 and bold as brass. I love going to the sales and as long as you are sensible and not bid randomly, (out of excitement like i did!!) You will get a great project pony! PM me if you would like any more info.
xx

did you want a racer to point to point on??? just that darleys horses, you have to sign a non racing agreement, which excludes the horse from racing and p2p. just a thought incase you wanted to.
good luck with the hunt for your new horse (TB's are the best!!! ;-)

I agree with Ascot- some lovely horses there going for peanuts as it's not really a sell on for racers if you get my meaning. I saw some fab youngsters there last week, some raced, some not, some broken and ridden round the farm etc.. Minimum bid is £400 and then you have VAT, buyers premium etc so it's a minimum of £500 really which is less than at Donnie (minimum £800?) so higher margin. You do get a chance to see them trotted up before and you can see how they behave in a "show" environment. Some are even open to vetting but not all. Best of luck- next one is in June!!

I have one for sale 4yo filly 15.2hh - blank canvas - never raced. York area around £1000 - home very important - I have got very attached to her!

I'd never trust myself to go to a sale and a) stick to budget and b) not come home with 3 or more.... :D I can't even go out and buy a horse for me or anyone else without coming home with extras :D :o

I advertised in our local paper (Blackmore Vale) and got 13 calls from people offering me thier ex-racers, got one of them and not looked back love her.

Hi there

I ride out for a local National Hunt yard. At this time of year they are always looking to rehome a few racehorses that haven't made the grade for whateve reason. Some are just too slow, or don't have the right temperament etc. Often nothing wrong with them at all apart from they're not suited to racing.

There are a couple coming up for sale (for very little money) to good homes. Both of which I can vouch for in terms of temperament, soundness etc. If you'd like more information then PM me and I can give you details and pass on the trainer's number.

Sorry to hi jack :) I'm looking for a sane & sound ex racer (I don't mind a slow one!) just for low level rc stuff (after retraining if needed) but he/she (prefer a he!) but it needs to be 16.2hh+ as I'm 5ft.10"

Please let me know if you know of anything £1k or less? :)

Might be worth contacting the local trainers & asking them if they have any coming out of training - that is how we got ours. Much better than going through the sales as you can see them in there home environment & try them etc.
