Actually can I raise a question here???? It states in the title that the Ex racers Championship is at Blair Horse trials in August 2008.....

I thought the ex racers championship show was held at Arena uk, normally around Oct???? Or are they now having two championships, one for the north and one for the southern contingent....

Or is it as the post says - only classes at this event????

(Not that I'll be going to either anyway, as will probably only do one ex racers class next year, oh no, possibly 2 actually, leics County and wittering if that is on again, having said that my boy did qualify for the championship show by coming 2nd at wittering last year to this years Champion of Champions Blue Streak, but as dressage is far more important to me, I couldn't go to the show at Arena)

mmm that is a good point...... scotland is rather a long way for the southern continency of us ex-racer owners.... I would have to have started saving last year for it if that was the case and hope I was successful at some at the not so local to me classes.

Is the championship show still happening at arena this year as I heard that there may trouble finding a judge again

Is this one of them classes where you can wear gadgets&boots?? or a proper Class with a respectable judge.

Is registration overly necessary and to what cause are the fees bound??

Yes to both of those actually! You may find though that the respectable judge (if it's someone like Peter Gunn again) may not like them much.....

Gadgets like bungee, draw reins etc arent allowed, however horses may be shown in boots if required and you may wear breastplate/martingale/any bit....

Blemishes on the horses legs sustained in training/racing (pin firing for example) will be ignored.

I hope that helps....

May not like who? I think Peter is highly entertaining and has a good way with the audience whom he captivates.... He is also a very knowledgeable person as far as TB's are concerned....

This is something that has confused me about these classes. Why are these bits of kit allowed.... these classes are showing classes and in a normal showing class these wouldn't be allowed. These classes are not working hunter.

I don't understand why these "special" rules are in place, surely a showing horse class, should be just that and regardless of breed standard rules should apply.

Doh...sorry...its the Scottish Championship....

For more details you can follow my link to the main site.

The club is all about retraining race horse with traditional kindness and patience.... and promotes the people who have gone out of thier way to afford these precious horses the opportunity to move from one career to another. Anyone can join in as long as they are members of the Club and meet the criteria. Full details are available on the site itself.

The sponsorship for this Event is considerable and demonstrates the high standing that this particular club has.
Other clubs may run similar events but not of this high level so I cant comment on the ins and outs of their organisation, or become entangled in "bitching" about judges.... showing is a matter of opinion, its not about winning, its about feeling that youve done your best.

I mean "may appear" to mark down horses wearing boots/martingales/green numnahs etc! Am not slating him in any way, quite the opposite, but am sure given 2 identical horses he'd chose the one in "proper" gear over the one not in proper showing gear.

I quite agree with your sentiments about Peter, I think he's a great judge. My mare was judged by him on 2 occasions, once at Leics County (her first show after coming out of racing) where she behaved abominably, then at Arena UK where he awarded her the trophy for the horse and rider showing most potential as a riding horse as he couldn't believe the difference in her

I think he ment the judge generally may not like the accessories that the owner deams necessary to show their horse

Despite the name I am a "she" (or was last time I looked

) and you're absolutely right!

I wondered if you were referring to PG or the gadgets!!! LOL!

Unfortunately, even though entered for Leics county, my lad had suffered a few of his colic attacks and would not have been fit enough to take part, so we didn't go!!! Maybe next year (I hope! fingers crossed etc) but we did our first outing of this year at Wittering and he came 2nd.... qualifying for arena.... but as explained somewhere earlier, my dressage tends to take over and I was competing my warm blood the same day as arena uk..... However a week after wittering we went to Newark and Notts Showground and he took first in the ridden ex racer, went through to the championship and also won that too!!! and we did Burghley this year as well.... in amongst colic attacks!

Yeah I know!!! Have we had the shortest day yet??? So your the rep for suffolk now!!! Well done....!!!

Womble is up for sale if you know anyone looking! (remember the grey?) reasons will be explained via PM if you wanna know more!

Umm... no offence but us Scots have to travel to England for ANY championships / final (in pretty much any disipline)! Don't see why it would be unfair to make you lot travel for a change!

Mincepie, I've got one you can have!!!!! Dont know if you'd get her in the ring tho, let alone anywhere near a championship qualification!

[/ QUOTE ]

Ooh sounds like a challenge...! You plait it up and take it and I'll see if I can get it in the ring

Getting on it will be the problem!!! She's cold backed and broncs like nothing I've ever seen before! Then once you have been dumped she looks as if to ask what the hell you are doing on the floor and then allows you back on and after that she is perfect!!! She only does it for the first few days of being ridden from not being worked and then she's a sweetheart - shame I cant find someone with the patience to work through this as they would have a cracking horse at the end of it!
Any takers?

Well Good Luck to those that venture into a certain undiscovered Land..

Every one's got to start somewhere..

What do you mean by that??

The Scottish Championship show is being held at Blair but the usual Arena show is still taking place in the Midlands.

The Scottish Championship has been organised partly because the travel to the Midlands from here costs over £500 on fuel alone (and fuel prices have rocketed recently so would hate to guess at the cost) and that alienated the scottish and northern contingent somewhat.

There is whole line up of classes so it should be a great event for ex-racers.

There are also ex-racer classes on at Thirlstane organised by the new Scottish & Northern Ex-racers club.

So hopefully by the end of the year I'll be able to say I've been to Blair and Thirlstane (no one needs to know it wasn't over THOSE jumps!!

Think it comes over as a good luck wish to all those who venture into this undiscovered land (meaning that its a new thing and not been done there before)

And everyones got to start somewhere...... is really self explanatory!
