I’ve had my lovely ex racer for 2 months now.
He had been enjoying 6 months of downtime following racing before he came to me so we have started from scratch and mainly hacked and lots of hill work
I decided to enter him at a local dressage comp last week, really local & on grass with a big warm up so lots of space for us incase there were any issues. Mainly to see how he would manage the situation.
He was a really good lad and tried his hardest for me once he had settled and realised that he was not going to be going any faster than a trot haha! We did a lovely intro test - not lovely on paper with the judges comments ‘not an easy ride for you’ but we had scores from 4-7s averaging at 6s across the test.
The fact that we managed to warm up and get into the white boards and produce a test without any disasters was the biggest win!
The photographer captured or final halt where he turned his head to look at me as if to say
‘Did I do good mum’ - precious!
I also reached out to an Irish racing photographer to enquire as to whether they had any winners circle photographs from the 5 races he won out there. It means a lot to me to have photos of his previous life where he tried so hard and had some glory moments that shouldn’t be forgotten.
He is my first ex racer and certainly won’t be my last. He is absolutely loving his retired life, with face grooming/mummy snuggles and hacking being his most favourite things!
Trippy is the sweetest gentle giant, I love him to death and can’t wait for the future!
