Did anyone see/hear about the story in the letter printed in I think it was the 1st march HH about the ex racer that went to a new inexperienced home, and was shot two weeks later for having bavioural problems even though the owners had offered to buy it back?

i was shocked when i heard about it. 2 weeks for a TB to come from training and settle into a new home is not long enough and I know they say he had behavioural problems but give the horse a chance!!!

i am an inexperienced owner having just got back into horses after years away so i know what its like to have a horse i can't handle but I surround myself with people that are very experienced and am lucky to have their advice.

poor horse. Maybe it is better that he was shot rather than be in the wrong hands and shipped from pillar to post. just think he didn't get a chance though.

Why one earth didn't the new owners give it back to the old owners if they offered?? It makes me really sad

That is terrible, poor horse, why oh why didn't they give it back to the original owners......... Makes my blood boil things like that...

I agree two weeks is not enought for any horse let alone a TB just out of training.

Some people are such t****! Id love to have an ex-racehorse though, especially one that was really successful but had been retired from racing.

not surprised just sad really. i really wanted an ex racer but just came to the conclusion that i had neither the skills/knowledge or facilities or time for that matter to re train them.

I know that buyer got a behavioural expert(

) out to see the horse and it did have problems but why oh why with an offer to buy it back they just didn't let it go back to the original owners is beyond me.

My YO owner gave me good advice when I was thinking of selling my fella - once you sell a horse you have no control over what happens to him.

Its really sad.

I'm not sure it was an ex-racer and it sounded like a revenge killing - the original owner had (I think) offered to buy it back for a part of the purchase price and the new owner decided it would be better to kill it than make a loss - not the horse's fault at all...

tho' I may be confusing two similar stories

that may well be the case. Like I said, i don't know a lot of the detail.

just think i would cut my losses and sell it back rather than kill the poor animal. But maybe it is better off dead than shipped for meat or something like that.
