A year ago I made my first post here, desperate for help with my new horse.

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=476046

Coming here for advice was a great move, as it turned out. I've just read back over my first thread and seen again how helpful and kind the responses were. I know some folk can be a little sharp here at times, but everyone was amazingly nice to me, even those who pointed out a few of the unwise things I'd done, said it very gently and tactfully. :o

My inbox filled with generous offers of help too, as I remember.

I told myself at the time I'd give my Mollie a year then re-assess. That year's up, and we've made huge progress, re-located to a yard which suits us better and got used to each others' little ways.

She's still a rather nervous old lady and so am I :o. Hacking out alone is still daunting but I just love her to bits and wouldn't part for the world.

Thanks for all the help, encouragement, advice, lively debates and giggles over the past year, HHOers. xxxx

Aww, happy hhoversiary :) mine must be coming up soon I think, I remember some of your posts from my early 'mostly lurking' days.
So glad you didn't give up on your girl xx

Thanks, I'm very glad too. I well remember the days of not being able to get her in from the field, her shying at everything, the rope burns on my hands and that sinking feeling when she'd break away and go careering back out when I'd got her halfway to the stable. :o

She wasn't what I was looking for in a horse, and of course I'd go about horse-hunting differently if I was to do it again. But many of our teething problems have been long since ironed out, and we're such good pals now.

First year of ownership is one heck of a learning curve, I definitely found that too.
Sadly I got a chance to buy again after losing my boy - I did it differently, applied everything I had learned from him and on here and new boy is much better suited to me and what i want to do... doesn't stop me missing the big nappy nutter every day tho.
Onwards and upwards for you and Mollie, I bet working through the problems helped to build the bond you have now - so all worth it in the long run!:)

Sorry you lost your boy. :(

Yes I think working through problems does help build a bond. Also now I know a bit about her past, and what she's been through, I understand her foibles more and it helps me be patient with her.

Thank you.
She was lucky to find someone who cared enough to try and understand :) remind her of that next time she gets carried away with herself :p

I love following stories like yours and Redmone's on here, and it's been great to see all the progress you have made. I think you have done a brilliant job with a quirky little mare.

It was my 13th 'ownerversary' with the ginger beastie last week; I hope you and Mollie have at least as many years of fun to come :)

Amazing how time goes so fast.
I do remember your wobble when deliberating moving yard & how you coped.
Have come a long way since then - and prob knocked off loads of rust along the way since then ;)

About time we had an updated pic of Mollie on here :p :)

The most recent of us both. :D:p
