Hi,

I'm preparing to take my first BHS exam and the day is drawing ever closer :eek:

Does anyone have any experiences or tips to share??

Revise well in advance, if you really know the subject then you'll have no problem answering questions with confidence and conviction.

If you have the time go for a lesson at the exam centre, bearing in mind there is often a time frame where you are not allowed to have lessons at the centre.

Be honest about your weaknesses and get some lessons with thats earned as focus.

Check everything you will be wearing for the exam and repair if needed, have your Jacket cleaned, wash and iron shirt, if you feel really smart it boosts you self confidence.

Finally have fun, aim to enjoy the exam.
 
I did my first BHS exam last year, and my advice is:

- do read all the advice on the BHS website, it is useful.
- do make sure you have your letter and membership card ready (I panicked when I couldn't find mine for my stage one and someone else did the same at the road safety).
- volunteer answers wherever you can
- Don't worry if you go blank, i couldn't remember the footfall in walk and waffled on for ages!
- try to ride a few times at the centre where you are doing your exam, I hadn't ridden either of my horses before but knowing where everything was and seeing some familiar faces (human and equine) helped.

Good luck, it is incredibly nerve racking but you will be fine!

Oh yes, every examiner has without fail been lovely. They do genuinely want to pass you if they can and will give you every chance to get questions right.
 
If you don't understand a question that is asked, ask the examiner to repeat the question and if you still can't comprehend what they are asking for ask if they will rephrase.
