My horse injured his DDFT back in April (12th) of this year and the prognosis was poor! The vets thought he could potentially be a total retirement case, happy (light) hacker at most IF he healed.....my world fell apart!!

Time went on and we did everything the vet said, things went well!!

Anyway, here we are today -

Cantering, JUMPING and the vet said on his last visit (monday this week) that I can do what ever I like with him now but take it ieasy (dont go bombing it around on bad ground, which I wouldnt anyway). common sense really!!

Anyway, heres a few pics of how he is doing now!!

I would like to think there are going to be others out there who WILL have the same luck we have had, its not all doom and gloom! :) Happy to chat if anyone is in the same sittuation I found my self in a few months back!!

I'm very pleased for you that he is well.

That is very quick to be back in full work for a DDFT injury, unless it was in the foot. Where did he injure it?

He injured it just at the back of his long pastern, almost half way beterrn his heel and his fetlock. Vets were VERY surprised it has healed as quick as it has and the last scan they did, almost 8 weeks ago it was totally gone, they couldnt see any sign of the hole/lesion.

I thought i wouldnt be riding him this side of xmas (if at all) so to be back in FULL work (4-5 days a week, walk trot canter jumping hacking etc) is fantastic! I cried when they told me I could now jump again!! I kept saying i dont mind if i cant ever jump him BUT actually I did mind, so to be told I can was such a fantastic feeling and he took to it like a duck to water!!

That's great news :)

I think I know who you are (not wanting to sound like a mad stalker!). Did you by any chance take the headshot of BH which I use in my siggy?

Its so nice when you think its all doom and gloom and then it comes right, bet you are over the moon!

I really did think it was the end of me riding him!! So much so I started looking into field retirement at a friends for him and finding my self another horse on loan to keep me in the saddle! He is never going anywhere though, even if he does ever become a 'duff one' :)

He is so special!

aww well done for getting him right its lovely to read a happy post :D

mine seriously injured his SDFT & DDFT in june this year, he had stem cell treatment and has just been turned out after 5 months box rest ,he's doing really well and should be back in work about july next year :)

enjoy your boy :)

My mare tore hers 2 years ago and shes fine now so yes they do come good. Hers was a bad tear in the hoof but thanks to my brilliant Vet at the time and my fabulous Farrier, shes sound and doing very well. You must be very pleased. !

Mine tore hers about 13 months ago and she is back in full work, and hour schooling 5 days a week with jumping competitions every fortnight- currently jumping up to 2'9 and over 3'0 at home (shes 14hh) with no signs of injury and the scar tissue which was very thick (can be felt from back) has gone down so much- you can feel how much it has gone down!

Only thing I would say is that tendon tissue is made of collagen and the healing process is not supposed to be complete until a year has passed- (I'm doing an extended project equine tendon injury on it and writing in vet level depth about it!) . Im not a vet (yet ;) ) but from what ive been studying i'd just take it very carefully, the collagen forms in fibres and have to align themselves etc etc which graduated exercise is essential for, but stuff like jumping can overstretch it... complicated stuff.

so happy for you, Im still in shock that mine has come back so strong too
