I was chatting to my YO today about not needing any shavings this month, as she put out 5 bales for me last month and I have only used two

She couldnt believe it and had even gone to check my stable to make sure it was clean (OK, I have been on the yard about 7 years now, you would think she would know how meticulous about mucking out I am by now....

)

I have come to the conclusion that Bob just does not pee in his stable

I take out lots of muck each morning but there is no 'wet' to take out, so I hardly use any bedding

I'm not complaining of course, it is fab

But just wondered if anyone else had a horse like this?

I do! my boys are exceptionally tidy! both do all wee's and droppings in the back right hand corner and never trample it in - i can muck out both of mine into one small wheel barrrow.

Both of mine will pee into a bucket when they first come into the stable, and after they've been ridden so that's two out the way, so have minimal wet in bed if any!!

Pony in stable next door takes 2 full barrows to muck out...and takes longer than it takes for me to do both of mine

My Connemara cross rarely pees in stable so little top up needed.
He can go from 4pm to 8am no problem but I need to let him out as soon as he sees me coming. If I go to feed shed and mix his breakfast he will pee in anticipation--then its a flood!!

My mare only pees in her stable about 3/4 weeks of the year - the weeks when they come in at about 3.30pm and do go out until about 7.30 am. Only ever wees in one place and poos in one corner - also has a wee patch and poo corner in her field. I put it down to the fact that as a youngster she was tethered (I had her from a rescue) and being a cob would have wanted to maximise her grazing! On the days she doesn't pee in her stable we quite often have to stop on way to paddock for one!

Mmm I am starting to get a bit concerned now - because Bob doesnt pee in a bucket, he doesnt do it when being ridden, he is never bursting to go when I turn up at the yard.... where is it all going

I am unsure how much he drinks at night because he uses his water trug (2 1/2 standard buckets) to dip his haylage in before he eats it

But he is a very healthy looking horse

Both of mine are young and have always been tidy - i think its luck of the draw with horses...they're either nice and tidy or an absolute mess!!!

One of our mares is exceptionally clean. She poo s in the one spot, and always avoids stepping on pile. She is also 'potty' trained in that she will pee in a bucket (for polos obviously). Only has a wet bit a couple of times a week.

The other mare is a bit of a box-wanderer so she is quite dirty (and definitely does NOT step over poohs). She tramples through regardless.

Bob sounds like Holly. She rarely rarely pees in her stable, she goes when I turn her out in the field or school (if I'm planning on working her she goes in the school as soon as I get there to have a wee) and when I bring her in she often wees just before coming over.

Mine is!

He poos in both back corners and wees in the middle

Easy, put on the rubber gloves and remove poo then remove the wet from the middle usually only 3 wees and he is done.

It probably helps in that he has a 20 ft square stable.

Mine is, I get comment from others at the yard about how they wish theirs was as clean. Its a god send now that shavings are hard to get hold of! I could get away with a bale a month in her stable but I give her 2 because I like too!

Nice and tidy, I always joked that before I bought a horse I wanted to see its stable after a night spent in as they can be so variable. Fact that mine is good (poos in one corner and just take out wet straw once a week) is complete fluke though.

My mare isn't clean. I'm sure she has a party in her stable every night.

She wets/poos and then manages to put shavings on top of it all, and for good measure she always gets her rug soaked every night!

My horse would flood his stable twice a day, he would wait for me to arrive though before performing! he would poo everywhere, including up the walls, through the bars, over the door and in his waterer.
He was PTS just over a month ago bless him, but god I dont miss mucking him out!

My mare is very clean she does 2 - 3 poos there spread around the stable but never trodden in or covered over just on the top doesn't drink alot so i just take out the wee at the weekends shes a god send as my gelding is a nightmare to muck out he looks likes his had a rave in his stable every night.

My horses aren't too bad really & they do help with saving shavings.....they both pee in a bucket in their stable when they come in from being worked/exercised.

kay the 5yo was totally disgusting on straw
shes amazingly clean on shavings/wood pellets, all the poo and wee is in one back corner all piled up and generally squashed down where shes used it as a pillow(she has large white patches lol)
the 2yo is pretty clean unless im down late-she walks about neighing her head off
and the 19yo is pretty clean too unless im late and then is total bed destruction.lol

That sounds like mine. We got through 10 or 11 bales of shavings in December but his bed is still wet and soggy-looking!

It's probably all the line-dancing that has given him a bad back!

My OAP Pony hardly evey pees in her stable, and she does all her poos in a little pile by the door away from her bed !

Nearly no mucking out at all !

Unfortnuately my other one seams to wee enough for both of them, his bed is discusting.

My mare does all her poos in one place and never stands in them.

My gelding poos in the same places every night and does stand in some of them but is quite clean really. He has the occasional dirty night.

Both wee in the same place so mucking out is quite easy and one wheelbarrow will do both.

My gelding used to wait to wee in the morning until he went out. He would always wee in the field he had to walk through to get to his own. Also on the way in he would always stop for a wee in someone else's field!

Oh well that has reassured me - at least Bob isnt the only one who doesnt pee in the stable
smile.gif
I shall continue to count myself very very lucky then

My mare is in the middle. Pees in one place. poos everywhere but doesn't tread it in, she just lies on it instead..
crazy.gif

Takes me 10mins to muck out, but she is on 4 day turnout with the winter grazing so she goes through 2 bales of bedding a week, mainly because her banks are 3ft tall and I like her to have a thick bed.
I know some geldings won't pee in the stable but will pee in the field, and I know some geldings are the other way around. They don't like to get their legs wet so they pee wherever it is deep if you get me?
Perhaps Bob in the past has had very minimal bed so when he pees it splashed up onto his legs thus making him pee in the field instead?
