I’m really struggling to find anything that will solve this issue, so I’m hoping you lovely people may be able to help? Had this pony 6 years, and looking back, it’s always been an issue, but it’s getting worse as he’s getting older! His droppings aren’t loose, but when he passes them, he get a lot of excess juices coming out afterwards. As he’s a coloured and mostly white, this really does present a major problem :-(. Among some of the supplements I’ve tried are: charcoal (happy tummy), naf pink powder, Protexin acid ease AND gut balancer, brewers yeast, feedmark gastric comfort. The list goes on and on. There has to be something that will ‘clean’ up this problem? Vet seems to be out of ideas too so I’m really at my wits end. Has anyone else had this issue and managed to cure it? He even passes juices when he breaks wind fgs! I thought I’d cracked it for a while with spillers hifibre cubes, but alas, these no longer seem to make a difference. Help please someone :-(

My horse has this issue after she has been sedated to have her teeth done. We have used hestevard pro fix which clears it up. Someone suggested to me that it was similar to a leaking gut and she may have hind gut issues. I have changed her to thunderbrook hay cobs and a feed balancer. Her gut issues seems to be resolved but we will have to wait and see what happens when her teeth are done in a couple of weeks. Good luck with finding a resolution, it's not very nice.

My younger cob also had this problem - it is really horrid to deal with and can't be nice for the horse either. Our vet recommended adding bran to his feed which helped a lot. He is now 7 and seems to have grown out of the problem, but possibly the main factor is that he is now on very old pasture rather than land that was previously used for cattle and had a much more limited range of grasses and weeds. He had either plain hay or very dry haylage during the winter and very minimal hard feed - only some pony cubes in March when he was looking a bit skinny (hard to imagine looking at him now!). Good luck with finding a solution for your lad.

Thanks for replies. I’ve decided to try him on bran for now and see if that helps though I’m not keen to keep him on it long term. I’ll discuss this with the vet as I believe if they are given a calcium supplement, this counteracts the effects of the bran drawing it from them?

Sorry I should have put that in too - we added some ground limestone to the bran - my cob was still growing at the time so essential that he wasn't short on calcium. The bran and limestone were not expensive so it proved to be quite a cheap and cheerful solution. Hope it works for your lad too.

Mine just had loose droppings and the naf daily gut health along with a hi fibre diet has made a big difference and he now does normal poos!

My mare has always been the same, also mostly white and caused a disgusting mess in her stable every day because of it! I’ve noticed ‘good’ green grass and haylage/wrapped hay made her much worse, I moved to a yard with tall untouched grass and ad lib coarse hay and that helped, then put her on Speedibeet, her vitamin mineral powder has a prebiotic in too, and then I started a small amount of Yea Sacc per day and she is so much better!
Although when she gets nervous it happens again 😢
