Hi. I have a ISH, stabled and unclipped, at night wears a no fill rug , no neck cover to keep the chill off back, however each morning return to stable only to find excessive sweating on neck, rest of body ok? Never had this with any other horses. Ideas or is it just too hot during night?

It can be a sign of cushings as they can't regulate there temperature if his not clipped does he really need a rug it's been so mild he could just be too hot.
Thanks, I think I will leave rug off tonight as still mild and see what horse is like in morning. Only reason for putting on is horse has mild kissing spine and was told to cover back especially if there is a chill at night.

I also find some no fill turnout rugs can cause horses to sweat underneath if it's warm, might be worth putting a very thin stable rug on instead or leave naked, if his coat is quite thick he probably doesn't need one on in the stable as there is wind or rain so should be fine.

You could clip the underside of his neck off I had to do this with one of mine last year in winter when he was on box rest, it was so mild he was getting hot just stood in and he only wore a fleece rug when it dipped to below freezing.

If your horse is too hot, he'd sweat everywhere surely, (elbows, between back legs ) not just on the neck? I have a retired PPID horse who has always been a warm horse anyway, but she never sweats on her neck. Maybe try one of those rugs which wick moisture away from the body?

9. Just returned from yard, rug was put on late last night, def chill last night, found no sweating on arrival. Think horse has been too hot. Thanks everyone. Will monitor weather and change type of rug .

It's been 14 degrees here some nights although it's wet it was so warm I even left one of my clipped ones naked in the stable a few nights and he was fine.
