Excessive panting on dog walks (the dog, not me...) - heart problems??

I don't know how old Talisker (my lurcher) is, because he was a stray before he came to the rescue people so they had no way of knowing his age. I would estimate he is between 8 and 10 years old.

Over the past few months I have noticed he pants an awful lot when on his walks, and I was wondering whether this could be a symptom of exercise intolerance caused by a heart murmur? His heart was checked when he was vaccinated in December, but I was so concerned about Jura (my greyhound) that I forgot to ask the vet whether he had a murmur

Jura did have a murmur and was on Vasotop which gave a huge improvement before everything else overtook her

I can take Tal back to the vets to have his heart checked - at the beginning of June I will be taking my new rescue greyhound in to register her at the vets - but just wanted some thoughts at the moment

Maybe he is just over exerting in his older years...no harm in getting him checked over though...esp if he is coughing with it.
Don't forget piccies...when the new one arrives

Mmmm, that was what I was thinking, although I'm not sure whether I am being over-anxious after Jura, he hasn't got a heart cough I am sure

I think I will get him checked out for my own peace of mind.

The camera is all ready for pics, I will even have broadband sorted out by then to make uploading to photobucket easier, so be prepared for lots and lots of photos

Not on your topic at all, but my friend has a lurcher bitch called Talisker and her other lurcher is Caol Ila!

We did the same thing

Our first lurcher was Macallan, then we had Jura, Talisker, Port Ellen..... my next greyhound is going to be called Islay, not quite a whisky but on the same theme

ETS - oh, and we tried all of them when we went to Blair Castle horse trials one year, the only one I liked was Macallan

Talisker the lurcher is the same colour as the whisky, a kind of dark orange

Balvenie is my favourite malt, but I reckon that is a dogs name not a bitches

I'm for Laphroaig myself, but I do buy my partner exotic versions of Caol Ila for Christmas. This year we managed to buy each other different versions. Ah, well, it's all lovely. My next dog is going to be a deerhound called Phaedra. Been wanting to use that name for years, but never had a suitable dog. I have a blue lurcher called Jacob who is getting on a bit now, a black ex-track greyhound called Lottie and the most spoilt terrier in the known universe called Violet.

Oh I would love another black greyhound - Ellen (in my sig) was gorgeous but she and Macallan had to be re-homed when my ex-husband and I split up

I have asked the rescue people for a black one this time if poss!

I love deerhounds, have always wanted one - although there is one on our livery yard, stunning looking boy but not that bright
