I have had my horse on loan for over a year now but recently he started to sweat a lot . When this happened a few weeks ago the stables reclipped him as he was getting a little fluffy again . Since then he has been fine but today I rode him and he got REALLY sweaty !! I only rode him for about 25 mins doing fairly light work and popping over a few tiny jumps yet he was drenched in sweat along his neck , under his saddle , on his whole face and was even foaming in some places . I walked him off, put on a cooler and brushed him off but I am worried as it is quite unusual for him to be even that sweaty in summer . Any advice or possible reasons would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks

Extra info about the horse : he is 16 years old, a thoroughbred , prone to loosing weight a lot so is fed quite a lot , lives in over winter , warmly rugged and has gone lame quite frequently recently .

Is he drinking and weeing a lot too? Those are symptoms of Insulin Resistance which often goes with Cushings, which presents with muscle wastage and laminitis, apart from the excessive coat. IR can be controlled with a low sugar/starch (cereals) diet, Cushings needs to be diagnosed with a blood test for ACTH levels, then can be controlled very well with Prascend.
