Excessive thirst/urination/not quite a Beastie?

I've noticed Beastie has started drinking a lot more and as a result urinating much more. She always lifted her leg while out on walks to 'mark' but only a drop or two came out but now she is properly peeing. She is also panting a lot even though the house is cool. She is not due to be clipped for another two weeks so isn't crazy hairy.

She always doesn't seem 'quite right' I can't put my finger on it, but there seems to be something amiss. Although I put it down to age (shhh, but she'll be 7 later on this month

Should I be concerned? Put it down to age? Or phone the vet and see what he reckons?
 
That's what I thought. My dad says I'm a neurotic owner as she was at the vets last month too. I helpfully pointed out that was for her boosters. She had a physical check then and he declared her good condition for her age. (If a little on the curvy side

Maybe worth measuring how much she is drinking in a 24 hour periord before you take her to the vets (can almost gaurentee they'll get you do to this anyway).

The 'normal' guideline amount for basic needs is 50ml/kg/day

May also be worth getting a fresh urine sample just before you go if you can too, always nice to present these things to your vet so you don't have to go back and forth (and second guess them!)

I'd just take her to the vet - and tell them exactly what you've told us. I would be terribly concerned about renal failure and any delay would be catasrophic.
 
Clean old icecream pots work well (and big enough you don't have to get to near).

I was thinking less drastically along the lines of diabetes.

Has she been spayed? One of the symptoms of pyometra is excessive drinking. Would definitely speak with/take her to the vet as soon as you can. Reading your post again, I wouldn't say she is old at 7 so wouldn't really put these symptoms down to age. Hope you get it sorted soon.
 
I'd get her checked out. Not that long ago Bes was weeing a lot and had a few accidents indoors and it turned out to be an infection which cleared up very quickly, she was also acting a bit down. I hope it's nothing too serious. xxx
 
Just phoned the vet. Receptionist took down all the details and is going to get Robert (my vet) to ring me back and let him decide if she should come in.
 

Good luck at the vets, you are doing the right thing. I think us owners tend to get a gut-feeling when something isn't right,,,, that and the ability to be over-protective over-paranoid mums

Vet phoned me back she's to go in at 6 tomorrow he's taking blood via a mini pin prick on her leg, if nothing shows up he will consider getting full bloods done

Hope all goes okay with Beastie. My first thought was diabetes, but I always thought that dogs lost significant weight and condition with diabetes.
 
Hope everything is okay when you have her checked out. It is possibly something easily sorted like a urine infection, keep us updated how she goes on.
 
to me it may sound like her something wrong with the kidneys...has she had these syptoms long and so her breath smell,is she loosing weight ,has she gone off her food ,and has she been disorinated at times
best to get her checked ..and 7 isnt really old, but what breed is she
