My 3 year old last year was backed in a wintec 500 17 1/2 inch saddle with x-wide gullet ( he had no withers)
For next year I would like a dressage saddle for him also with exchangeable gullets so that i can use it as he grows.
So as this wintec fitted him, with the bates caprilli dressage saddle also fit him on a x-wide gullet or the wintec 500 dressage saddle?
Would i get away with just buying a second hand bates with exchangle gullets or is there a possibility it wont fit him?
Thanks :)

The bates and wintec saddles are generally very similar as they are part of the same company. I have the Bates GP, as I personally perfer leather saddles, but i'm sure it is the same for the wintec.... These saddles come in different forms, the Cair pannel system and the orginal flocking system, you can have two excatly the same saddles with the same gullet in it but if they are packed with different amounts of cair pannels or flocking then they may not sit the same on your horse. If you buy a second saddle with the x wide gullet in it you will easily be able to get a saddle fitter amend the flocking if the saddle does not fit.

I don't think all of the Bates & Wintec saddles have the same tree, some of them seem to be more banana-shaped than others - the Wintec Isabelle for instance seems to have a much flatter tree than the Wintec GP I tried on my horse (although I can't remember which one that was :o). It would be worth checking before you bought another saddle that it is exactly the same as what you have.
