I'm very excited! Next week we are doing an insane 5 hour journey to Cornwall to pick up my new 15hh 6 year old chestnut arab gelding! My first arab ever! (I'm going to bring him on slowly as a new project - can't wait)
On our way we are picking up two mini pigs from Southampton for the lady we are buying him from so its going to be an interesting journey!
Little arab has not done a big journey before, so I'm a bit worried for him! We would love to stop off half way through and give the boy a break and a walk around if anyone would have us!
We are traveling from Rye, East Sussex to Cornwall, Exmore area.

Rebecca stop off at the new forest! :D haha
It's roughly half way between cornwall and you guys probably give or take an hour.
Although if he were to bugger off he would be a job to find! :p

Good idea Ashleigh, although I agree, if we lost him we don't stand a chance! Although I could pick up a nice new forest pony!

Not being funny but before you pick the pigs up make sure you have the relevant movement paperwork for them as its illegal to move them without.

Barnum - thank you! Will look on the map and pm you if its on route! Would be perfect to take a break and give him a rest, its his first big move and I have a feeling its not going to go smoothly :S

Sprytzer - thanks for that, I moved some sheep once and had to do the same, its much more complicated than I thought! Will investigate piggy paperwork :)

Can I just ask will the pigs be in the car with you or with your new arab (who sounds lovely) only asking because a lot of horses are absolutely terrified of pigs, or is your new boy good with them? :)

Letslip.....I may be wrong but im pretty sure its illegal to transport horses and pigs in the same vehicle anyway, i assumed that as they are mini pigs they would be in a suitable container in the car.
The last piglet i moved i used a plastic container with a net over.

Oh, I didn't make myself very clear, I'm picking up piggies on the way, and swapping them for the arab! So they won't meet. That would be scary!

Actually, I do need some advice from anyone who has moved pigs please. Yes, they are mini ones, and I have a lorry, so obviously don't want little pigs falling all over the place in a huge two horse lorry. What would you recomend I travel them in? I have dog and cat pens at home which I assume would be good. Any advice more than welcome as I have never moved pigs before.
My journey is turning out to be a bit of an adventure - anyone else want anything picked up on the way!!?

If they are going to be alone in the lorry i would just put a huge pile straw in a corner and let them travel in there, they will more than likely just burrow into it and sleep, if you are worried about them falling about see if you can block a corner off and leave them to it with the straw, most pigs i have moved have done just that and came to no harm, you will cope im sure lol.

Hi,
just to let you know the pigs will need and aml2 to travel with its a carbon copy four way from and you'll need to put the holding number the pigs are going to on it. The pigs will need to be identified in some way either a tattoo, slap mark or an ear tag- hope this hels : )

Thank you for that :) x

Pigs MUST have access to water for the whole of the journey! They will die en route other wise!

Check out the DEFRA website-the regulations on how to transport there

Good luck!
