I posted a while ago about wanting to get a second dog, ideally a large breed, but were having difficulty finding a rescue that didn't just give us a blanket 'no' because some sections of our fence are only 4' tall.

Last week I had a chat with the welfare officer of the main UK Newfoundland breed club, they would approve us to adopt an older (4+) Newf with our current garden and they have just confirmed receipt of our formal application form - home check apparently to be arranged soon :).

I am so excited - I've always wanted a Newf, OH took some minor persuading but is now 100% on board. I'm a little worried that we might need to wait for quite a while until they have a suitable dog - I get the impression they don't get a huge number, and we will look ridiculous out walking with a 5kg terrierist and a Newfie, but Katie absolutely loves big dogs as long as they don't bounce on her so they should be fine :).

Bit of a pointless post really, but it feels like our dog search has been going for ages and getting nowhere so far, I'm thrilled we're finally moving forwards :)

Really pleased for you. Newfies are lovely, my closest friend had them for years. As you say,it may be a while before the rescue has a suitable one in. Luckily (for Newfies) not that many of them need rescuing.
Good luck and keep us posted.
