Excited - started Newfie adoption process

I posted a while ago about wanting to get a second dog, ideally a large breed, but were having difficulty finding a rescue that didn't just give us a blanket 'no' because some sections of our fence are only 4' tall.

Last week I had a chat with the welfare officer of the main UK Newfoundland breed club, they would approve us to adopt an older (4+) Newf with our current garden and they have just confirmed receipt of our formal application form - home check apparently to be arranged soon .

I am so excited - I've always wanted a Newf, OH took some minor persuading but is now 100% on board. I'm a little worried that we might need to wait for quite a while until they have a suitable dog - I get the impression they don't get a huge number, and we will look ridiculous out walking with a 5kg terrierist and a Newfie, but Katie absolutely loves big dogs as long as they don't bounce on her so they should be fine .

Bit of a pointless post really, but it feels like our dog search has been going for ages and getting nowhere so far, I'm thrilled we're finally moving forwards

Really pleased for you. Newfies are lovely, my closest friend had them for years. As you say,it may be a while before the rescue has a suitable one in. Luckily (for Newfies) not that many of them need rescuing.
