My horse tends to get over excited and go too fast when jumping, he is fine with just a couple of jumps but as soon as there is a proper course he gets so excited.

I know it is excitement rather than worried!!!

What I am wondering is will he get over the excitement if I jump him a lot lot more? ie everyday for a few weeks as I am lucky to have access to a proper course that I can change enough so he doesn't just get used to one course

our horse used to be exactly like this and the more you jumped him the faster and stronger he got! im not sure why he started to behave himself but one day something just clicked with him and he now jumps sensibly most of the time,he does tend to charge at the first fence still and anything under 3ft he can be careless with his speed over to

hello stranger

how's it going at Rodbaston then? Is the XC course open yet or are you just using the showjumps?

wahoo how was your holiday? you lucky thing!!

No XC won't be open for anyone other than students to use, shame but not the end of the world. The jumps are mostly huge anyway lol

I love it here, love the facilities and love having young people around me.

Off to kingswood on Saturday for trailblazers too.

what you up to?

fantastic! there's a post in soapbox with some pictures if you've not already seen it.
Glad its better at Rod for you, mind you the facilities are excellent aren't they. I loved the indoor school, plenty of space.
Do they get many at the trailblazers as have been on their website and not many entered and have been wondering whether or not to take Pidge to these and do the smaller classes?

If I remember rightly there was around 30+ in the small classes, as most enter on the day, so yeah quiet busy. Indoor arena is small (long and narrow too) have you been before?

so quite hectic then, what is the standard like? Only been to Kingswood for the dressage with Higgins couple of years ago. Is it in the indoor with the cafe overlooking it?

can't find your post!! went back to page 25 I think. Yes it is the one with the cafe, but Marchington has one of those too lol Standard is about the same as Novice at Stafford

I wouldnbt jump too often- you'll kill his enthusiasm and thats the last thing you want to do.
Try working him on the flat around the fences, then jump 3/4 and go back to flatwork and keep up this same process for a few weeks.

How often do you jump course?

It may just be he needs a bit more experience with them so they dont seem quite so exciting.

That was my idea too. I have recently moved to new yard where I have access to full course which I did not before. So upto 2 weeks ago he had probably done 3 or 4 courses in 6 months. That has obviously changed now and has done that many in 2/3 weeks and there is some improvement.

Just don't want to over do it with him.
