How many of you school your horses in bandages rather than boots?

And if you do, what is your reason for doing this?

I tend to put fleece bandages on if his legs are still wet as I am worried the boots might rub otherwise I put boots on.

I school my horse in bandages, he always has his front legs bandages, whatever we are doing. Hacking, flatwork, jumping and luneging. I use bandages as I feel there more flexible than boots and just becase I like them

I use bandages in the winter months as I clip my horse's legs out fully and find boots just slip on his front legs (have tried several different styles/sizes). However, I'm considering using them all year round as I find them so much easier to wash and I think they offer a lot of support. I use them for flatwork, hacking and low-level showjumping (he's naturally careful in front so I don't feel the need to use open-fronted boots instead). I use ones that are half fleece and half elasticated so that they provide enough support/protection.

i use fleece, or half fleece half elastic bandages.
i could make up all sort of reasons but in reality-they come in loads of pretty colours that i can match to my saddlecloth/breeches/jacket!!!! i think for dressage they do as good a job of protection as boots. i would never put vanity over horse safety but for flat work i dont think it matters which you use, so i use the pretty bandages lol!!!!

And also, do you put anything under them or just use them on their own?

Well usually I use the half-fleece ones, so I bandage down the legs with the fleecy part (which acts as the under protection) and then bandage up the leg with the elasticated part. However, the 1/2 times I have used just elasticated ones I always put a bit of gamgee underneath.

For showjumping and when he's at dressage shows warming up his uses his 'special' Eskadron white bandages, which have half fleece/towel (i think they call it climatex) stuff then normal stretchy bandage for the last half. For everyday I just use normal fleece bandages, I don't put anything underneath them x

only for stressage lessons as I think he will work harder and competing. Not for every day - its hard enough to motivate myself to ride after work in the dark without bandaging his lordship up!

i use half fleece half elastic too. only for jumping though, although i would use them at home if he really needed them, hes got chunky legs being a cobby though. i use them because he sweats alot, and when he wears boots the material combined with his sweat cause dry flakey skin that is quite sore for him, his legs also swelled up. i switched to bandages and this has never happened since!! so now i never use boots on him
