Exercise Question

How much exercise should we be giving our 4 month old wheaten (well, he's just a week or so short of 4 months)
We normally take him on a 30 mins or so walk a day but he's still bouncing off the walls! Would more time off the lead in the garden help? (he's recently learned to creep under the fence to the neighbours lab's..who HATE him!)
We were told just playing at home would be enough but i'm not sure it is!

Sorry to repeat myself - but typed it once - so just cut and paste

The rule for puppies is 5 mins per month of his age - so at 4 months - 20mins - more than once a day is ok - just not too much in one go. Then once they fully grown ie. 1 year to 18 months you can do more

Just keep upping by 5mins each time he gets a month older.

Playing at home and training is good (and mentally tires them out). Personally I would drop to 20 mins and take him out two or three times a day

Will do, just took him out and i think it's been about 20 mins...we were going up to a field but it seems the grass has grown a bit too much so we just came home!

You can always give him a frozen kong to keep him entertained.......

Buy a kong - stuff with anything he likes - I usually give banana, bio yoghurt, strawberries or you can stuff with cheese and pieces of frankfurter, then freeze for a couple of hours.

Once frozen give to the pup! Will keep them occupied for ages and as is frozen good for helping with sore gums whilst teething.

I never knew how much exercise a pup should have so wen my collie x lab was 3 monthes i took her riding and wen she appeared tired i would tap my horses leg and say up and id ,hall her up on top with me but the following day she would be so stiff because its just to much and there bones r so soft so i leart a valuble lesson im sure your doing right i would recomend just lots of playing x

Thanks for that - he's a pain in the arse for when it comes to teething, we've been soaking his ropes and freezing them which he loves.
Will give that a go, we've got a kong but don't use it that much. Sounds like a good idea

They are god send

My dogs love them

Never thought of freezing them though, deff going to try that

Might last a bit longer than 5 mins then
