Having real trouble atm using my left leg whilst in trot, sitting or rising (not so bad in walk/canter) its like i physically cant sit to my horse and ask for things like leg yield, shoulder in, half pass etc. Yet right leg is spot on. Its my weaker side and his, but would really like to help to stregthen it.

So does anyone have any idea of exercises to stregthen it? either under saddle or just at home.

Thanks

I think it might help to improve core strength first by joining a Pilates class if you can. This will improve your stability in sitting trot which in turn will make it easier to use your legs. You could then mention to your Pilates teacher that you would like to improve the strength in your left leg and he/she should be able to assess you and give you appropriate exercises.

It's not just the leg but hip flexors and the ability to use just that leg and nothing else. Squats, step ups lunges kettle bell swings and deadlifts are great for legs and isolating muscle groups - when done correctly!
