Exercising a dog from a bicycle....

I wish I’d posted this 3 years ago lol, you are all coming up with some brilliant ideas!!!

I’m so used to lazy greyhounds that a totally manic sparky lurcher is weird for me, but I really should have been thinking ‘outside my usual box‘ a long time ago.... life is a learning experience I suppose!

Not really bikejoring as I don’t want to be competitive and I don’t want to train her to pull me along, but Millie clearly isn’t getting enough exercise so I’ve had my bike fixed with the idea that I can go out with her trotting alongside me at a gentle ‘working trot’ to increase the distance she gets every day (and tire the little darling out ?)

Does anyone do this, and if so how far to do go? Millie can run 10k with me without batting an eyelid, and I wasn’t intending to cycle much faster than that at all, but when I look online all the articles seem to throw their hands up in horror and say 2-3 miles maximum!

If I’m honest there just isn’t any point in taking her such a short distance. She has endless energy, no off button and she never stops - even after a 10k run she will sleep for 1/2 hour then she will be up and ready to go again!

So I’m wondering what is reasonable really ?

Mmm, well I tried this when my fell hound was young, fit and keen! Never again :p:p She loved it and got harder and fitter much more quickly than I did. You won't necessarily have the same problem however that I did when doing this with a nose-hound....When they pick something up with their nose and then leg it at top pace they don't necessarily consider where the bike is in relation to the scent....I was lucky not to have some nasty injuries and Bess, well she thought I was neither fast enough nor keen enough!! :) :)

Past owner of lurchers and now new owner of Mali’s - thinking ‘outside the box’ was a necessity!?

I’m not surprised ? if I believed in the accuracy (which sadly I don’t) I’d have a DNA test done for her - obviously she has a lot of sighthound but I’d dearly love to know what else was in there ?
