Anyone know how I can trace where the Exmoor pony I ride is originally from? He has a branding and I think this is related to what herd he was born with?

Either that or does anyone know which herd is branded HRH?

thanks

Was he born in the wild or was he bred at a stud? Does he have a star (diamond shape) on his shoulder?
If he is registered he will have a star on his left shoulder with a herd number underneath and a number on his left quarter. Or an anchor if he is from a special herd.

both the 2 i have at home have diamonds on their shoulder with the herd number and a separate number on the nearside quarter

We have a little guy at work with an anchor so he has no herd number but has the star (diamond) on his shoulder.

I've just asked for you on the Exmoor pony society group, hopefully get an answer later today (I'm intrigued myself). Are there any other numbers or letters?
