Hi all,

I have just joined this forum and have been reading around a bit and have heard quite a few mentions of Exmoor Ponies.
I personnally own 4, soon to be 5 Exmoor ponies, they are from the "Anchor" herd. They are totally and uterly wild, I have been getting them used to humans and it seems to be paying off. After about 2 months everyday contact I have stroked the oldest, touched the 2 youngest and the foal "kissed" me whilst smelling my face :D

Anyways I would love to see your Exmoors, hear your Exmoor stories and get your Exmoor tips

See my Exmoors here and here :D

I am just in the process of buying one. A 1 yr and 2 yr and they are both handled.so I am trying to decide which one to get.

Well from my 2 months of experience:
Our 1 year old: She is shy but curious, she is the only one that won't let me touch her but she will touch me but having said that our foal leaves the others to come and say hello to me.

Our 2 year old: Well the best word to describe her is arrogant. She is full of herself, she knows she's gorgeous and has no problem with showing everyone that she is. She is trying to become the leader of the herd but mum (Willow) soon puts her back in her place.

I think you should look at the character of them both but personally I think I would go for the 1 year old to get to know her at a younger age and so you two can build a special bond over time.

Once you have gained the trust of an Exmoor you will be friends for life.

I love Exmoors as well, not fortunate enough to own one as yet, my non Exmoor boy v poorly at moment so bit of a difficult time but in the next couple of months, other half prevailing (i.e. if I can persuade non horsey over half that is a good idea!) we may be seriously looking.

Have you heard of Mousiemoorland trust I understand they re-home youngsters that are handled as well?

You are v lucky, Anchor is a v good line.

Sorry to hear about your boy, for persuasion get him to read up about them a bit: he will soon come around to our way of thinking ;)

The one year old is a colt which is kind of putting me off. He is really friendly and came right.up and let me stroke him straight away. He was a cheeky fella with a really cute face.
The 2 yr is a filly. She is a bit more of a loner in the field and gets pushed around by the other mares. She is a bit more nerve but let me stroke her head and neck when I had food. Wen I went to see her in the field she seemed to recognise me and began to come over before another mare chased her away.
So hard decision. Thanks for you info!
Both of these are anchor bred as well.

SlideWithPride - Will you be breeding? far to many out there that could do with decent homes.

They are lovely ponys although don't own one.

I have an Exmoor

He is a lovely boy and I do loads with him.

My tip would be to have loads of patience and be prepared for some 'discussions'....:D

heres him at a show last week with my OH

We won't be just yet but maybe one day, who knows :D

Without meaning to sound cocky, has anyone ever heard of any Exmoors in France? We have done research and we think that there is a possibility that ours may be the only pure Exmoors in France. Hence we are thinking of taking our colt to the "Salon du Cheval" in Lyon to show off the breed. Any ideas?

They are very helpful and nice. They have a website.

The exmoor pony world is very small, everyone seems to know everyones ponies! Yours are lovely, I love your colt foal :D

I'm sure the exmoor society would be able to help you with that one, I am presuming you are in France? :)
