Exmoor pony dies after fireworks set off on conservation grazing site.

Poor girl, may she rest in peace.

Unbelievable that people would be so cruel to set fireworks off near animals, semi-feral ones at that. There were fireworks close to me when I went for a walk the other day, which made me very anxious - and I’m a human who understands what’s going on. Signing the petitions now.

The RSPCA are collecting data about firework related incidents involving animals to lend weight to the petition to regulate fireworks when it is presented to the government. We have also had one pony die locally.

I hope this works. i am not too sure how FB links work.

I've signed so many petitions calling for a ban of the public sale of fireworks I've lost count.

None of my own animals give a rats rear end about the noise but a few years ago I took a video of some yobs setting them off on a public footpath. They were aiming them at trains passing on a line around 20 meters from where they were.

Police weren't the least bit bothered even though we explained we had clear footage of the car the silly gits left in (inc the reg plate).

Not sure if they just had a ton of similar reports and couldn't spare anyone at the time but it was dissapointing to say the least.

I have signed the one calling for a lowering of the decibel limits and the one for public displays only. I have been on some city estates that are simply horrifying at this time of year.

Poor pony, but I actually think the problem is bigger than just animals, not that animals are not important.

I don’t know if TheresaW will see this but I hope she can post the video she took from her house the other night.
I am so sorry for this pony, and can you imagine being an ex soldier who is struggling? Or a person intimidated by loud noises. We are supposed to be so supportive of any MH issues but for at least one month of the year thousands of people and animals must live in terror.

The Exmoor Pony Community as a whole are devastated. We have lost a pony. A rare breed pony who was doing her job, maintaining a conservation site.

As someone who has hill grazing ponies I know how valued these ponies are and how much they mean to the people who own them. This is devastating and utterly unnecessary. I sincerely hope that whoever is responsible for those fireworks is prosecuted. Poor, poor pony. :(

There was another pony killed this weekend. From what I read he Panicked and jumped the field gate onto a road, someone stopped car with hazards on and tried to help and then a second car overtook the one with the hazards on just as another firework spooked the pony into its path. Poor pony was killed by the car and car was written off. Devastating and so unnecessary.

Sounded very much like mine too. I live in city suburbs & for someone with MH issues or PTSD, it must have been terrifying.
Yet if anyone posts on the local community page, they get shot down in flames & accused of being a killjoy.

I know. I’ve also had the “it’s only one night” thrown at me. If it were just one night, it would be ok. One of the dogs is terrified, and we will have random ones going off now right up to new year.

My stepdaughter has multiple issues-autistic, MD and the MD means overall muscle weaknes that means that when there is a loud noise, her ears can't compensate. We are rural, so fireworks arent an isse and so she always comes to us when fireworks are about, the problem though is that its ongoing November through to New Year.

All 4 petitions signed.

I'm in a big housing development and a lot of people around here have money to burn, literally. Despite there being a massive organised fireworks night a 10min drive away the majority of houses were setting them off here on Friday and a bit on Saturday. There was a LOT of banging but some new ones that boomed like a bomb had been dropped. It was non stop from before 5 until 10pm.

I really feel for all the pets around here and the wildlife.

It's just ridiculous. Not like they are cheap either, and definitely some one upmanship going on, yet happy to literally burn hundreds of pounds. Ludicrous to me.

They should be banned 100% and all organised council displays should be silent

I would like to see that we have one night of organised displays which are professionally run and everyone in the local area is adequately notified. One night for bonfire night, one night for NYE.

Will that happen.. will it heck. It has always baffled me that supermarkets etc are able to sell what are essentially weapons to anyone over 18 at any time of the year really.
