Expensive horse insurance renewal

I’ve had a couple of claims this year but didn’t expect my NFU renewal to come through at £1,700 for my 5yo mare for vet fees only.

KBIS quote is similar and Agria want 25% excess.

I really don’t feel comfortable putting money away, I have rubbish luck with horses.

I know it’s been done before but any other companies worth looking at with good experiences?

Insurance Emporium? Have you tried NFU? NFU were cheapest for me but no claims.

Its a nightmare as renewals have gone up so much this year in general for all insurance.

Have you tried a broker like Shearwater. (assuming they’re still in business). I used to be with them and would chop and change what covered depending on what I could afford. They were always very helpful. Horse is too old to be insured now.

TBH I don’t think it’s that bad for NFU.
You have claimed so it will go up. At least NFU don’t quibble and pay out.

I’ve had issues with KBIS previously and wouldn’t use them again.

They're only as good as they say they are when it comes to not quibbling about claims.
I am saving a years insurance premium for now prior to viewing any potential new horse and see what happens the following year. I think I will save as much money as I can for insurance.

NFU used to be really good and would give you a discount the following year for staying with them. They don't do that anymore.
KBIS won't cover Lari for anything other than accident with visible external injury and death of horse under humane grounds (BEVA) under all risks mortality.

KBIS put my horse insurance up by 14% because my horse turned 14 I don’t even claim for vet insurance as I can’t because I live in Ireland 🇮🇪

I'm dreading this - I'm with Scottish Equestrian who have been excellent (reasonable prices and happy to pay out) but my horse is 14-ish now and I'm anticipating a massive hike in premiums. I will have to cut back on his insurance to emergency only I think.

ETA - but perhaps they will surprise me! I've been very happy with my chosen insurer so far.

I went with Animal Friends for my mare. NFU wouldn't even give me a quote after I had multiple claims and then losing my last boy!
