Anyone any experience of Clifton Connemara pony sales? In particular how the class of pony is determined and any way to find the final sales price? I'm looking at a class 3 pony sold in 2016. Any help to interpret the sales catalogue?

Yes, I've been to Clifden many times. The "class" is the rank assigned to the pony at grading, nothing to do with the sales. The sale price is probably available from the auction listings (but not necessarily). You would need to contact the auctioneer. What do you need interpreting?: I speak "sales"....

As Cortez has said above the class of a connemara pony is determined by the Breed Society, not by the sales house.

Using the words from another site "Briefly, all foals are registered as Class 3. Adult ponies (2 years and over) – Stallions and Mares – are registered in Class 1 if they pass a visual and Veterinary inspection, and as Class 2 if they fail the visual, but pass the Vet, or are over or under height, or blue eyed creams, and as Class 3 if they fail the Vet or have not been inspected

The progeny of Class 3 ponies remain in Class 3 and cannot be upgraded".

So a class 3 pony could be one not presented for grading - a lot of geldings aren't, or one that didn't reach the required veterinary standards or could be the progeny of a class 3 pony.

If you are looking to buy a connemara pony that has passed through the Clifden sales ring there will be a record of the sale. Don't read too much into it being a class 3, especially if it is a gelding or you have no plans to breed. If you are looking to buy a pony I am sure you will be arranging your own vetting anyway.

All vetted and now bought - thank you. I got the information I needed from Cortez. But Puzzled - if you happen to have the catalogue for May 2016 with a note of the prices I would be interested. Purely for curiosity.
