Ok, so I have my lovely hunter Badger horse, he's still going super strong at 13 but I'm feeling the urge for a new (extra) one. ;) I think to be coming along in case Badger gets injured or anything.

BUT, OH says I'm not allowed one. Booo! However, my dad has a lovely little pet of a TB. He's fairly useful, can Jump and is non stupid. He's just such a tiny little thing I've never thought of hunting him before. He's 15.2/3 and flat bred so doesn't have much bone. I probably ride at about 10 stone and hunt with the Meynell, so fairly meaty grass/hedge/timber with some stone walls kind of country.

Do you think he'd stand up to it or do you think he'd break? :-/ I'm pretty sure he'd have the sanity and ability for it with some intense summer training!

Go for it. As long as he is sound now and gets fit then i don't see a problem. My current hunter is a 16hh flat bred ex racer. The hills round me in Derbyshire have done him wonders and he is really nimble on his feet.

As you can see from my other post about two horse days, fingers crossed I may be able to have an ex-racer for next season, so I will be trying to do the same. It's also quite heavy and hedgey around here.

I can't help you as I have never hunted a TB before, but I am hoping the experience may be more fun than riding my ID/TB who is very heavy on his feet, and you never get that "flying" feeling that you sometimes do on a lighter horse.

I thought it was a similar situation when I read your post! I totally couldn't manage 2 horses with no help btw.. can't manage one!

I don't think it's ever possible for him to match up to my ID/TB. ;)

No. I don't think two horses by myself is a goer!

I am sure my ID/TB would be perfect if he had a mouth.......

Had the phone call today confirming that the racehorse is mine. Eeeeee! Will be interesting to compare progress next season!

I've hunted dinky Wilby (15.1hh, poss 15,2hh sprint-bred TB, shows as a hack :p) a handful of times with the Readyfield - we don't do big country though  He's always been fine - stays all day and jumps everything I ask - but I don't do many meets due to uni, dressage, money etc.

Congrats tst -hope you have many happy times hunting your new racehorse

Starbucks - One of the most cracking hunters I ever knew was a TB (flat racer) x ID (I think) who was only 15.2 (ridden by a lady), could cover any country and would jump anything

Mine aren't TB, but one of my pony mares has legs so spindly that Dad can get his hand wrapped around them easily - quite scary really!

She has hunted loads, and she doesn't give herself the easy option!

I'm about 9st, so yours would be bigger (2 hands bigger) for only 14lbs more....much easier for it, though mine doesn't seem to ever notice me or the input I might have!

I've hunted my little TB mare (all 15.1 of her, legs like match sticks and bred for the flat) and she's a hardy little buggar ....that can shift! yet not powerful enough to be pulling your arms out. I'm 5'6'' and weigh 9 stone, so with a light weight saddle on a fit mare, she'd party all day long.
