Experience. What has been your biggest lesson?

Actually, the most important lesson should be, do not wait for a horse you know isn't safe to injure or kill you before you give up on it. Our own necks are worth more than any horse.

No big one yet, just small ones

That, unless you are doing something REALLY wrong... sod what anyone elses opinion is. Do what YOU want to do and what makes you and your horse happy.

Cobs can jump

You will land where you look!

Also............never under estimate the speed a cob can reach if it really REALLY wants to :eek:

But mainly that a horsey cuddle can make EVERYTHING better

don't get complacent and always be prepared for that nasty spook, but equally you've got to trust your horse to look after you!
I know these contradict each other and finding the balance of trust and to be on guard is sometimes hard.

Flame - oh don't worry me and my boy fine now after a paid a professional rider to do his initial training , he was just too green for me and a big lad, fast forward 8 months I back on board and we getting on ok but still have a long way to go and TBH if I'd of just bought a slightly older horse say 6 or 7 instead of 4 it would of been less painful and cost me far far less money , but hey we live we learn and I'd never get a youngster like him again. Lesson learnt..! :-)

Wagtail - RE: warmblood

Errr Rather you than me :-)

After a accident which landed me 10 days in hospital , operation to remove park of the back of my leg and skin grafts, never will I be getting a young big well bred WB, oh no - I learnt my lesson the hard way

6 or 7 year old for me next time ;-)

How awful! Yes, warmbloods are far more of a handful in my experience, than any thoroughbred. I will be three years older too when it comes to backing him. Have to see how things are going at that stage. I have known some that are a peace of cake to back, others not so. You can generally tell before sitting on them for the first time. *touches wood*.

99% of the time it is rider error.

When I first got Ruby, I told everyone how green she was and how I was really getting fustrated schooling her. Got a RI who actually said, that I was the problem. Once I had sorted my position out and scrubbed up on my riding technique, Ruby started going much better! Suprised the poor cow didn't try to get me off with the confusing aids I was giving her, whats worse is I blamed her! Opps. Lesson learnt!

To trust your 2 year old with your life and she will trust you with hers, I have had my now 2yr old since september and she Is a lamb with me now- she was a cow to begin with and scared the hell out of me. Last week I moved them to a new yard and there was some barbed wire hidden under some scrub that I didn't know was there, the 2 year old got tangled in it and my 3 year old got whipped with it as the 2 year old plunged up and down (the barb was fencing of marsh land ) and 3 year old stood like a saint whilst the 2 year old thrashed, I ran to her thinking my god she is going to kill her self and me In the process- no she didn't she lay with her head in my lap whilst I stroked her and got her cut free, she then let me put her in a strange stable with my 3 year old and dress her wounds and assess the damage, the 3 year old and I always have battles and plan was to break in hunt for a season and sell, after waiting and calming us both down she will be going no where EVER.

O and another lesson just cos pony is 14hh and the hedge is 6 foot with 8 foot drop on other side doesn't make it secure :/ and she can pop it like its a cross pole!
