Following on from the should i sell my horse over the phone saga i have decided to be ruled by heart instead of head and not sell my horse at all. He was my first horse and ive had a lot of fun with him so i think i owe it to him to make sure that his future is secure. However, it still remains that i dont really have the time to give him lots of attention and really i could do with the money in my pocket every month instead of paying for a horse i do very little with...so have decided that looking for a proper loan home is hopefully going to be the solution. Have tried to find loaners before but always to stay at present yard so thats been too difficult... i figure that he would be fine going to a new home so long as i could check on him regularly.
Now i know that i can download the template loan form from the bhs but there are certain clauses that i would like to write into it and also i have a few questions about loans and how they work that hopefully some of you lovely people will be able to help me with!
- I would like the horse to be insured for vets fees. Not bothered about value for death, just vets fees. Would i just transfer over the payment of my existing policy or would the loaner take out their own policy?
- My horse wears heart bars because my farrier feels this is the most suitable shoe for him- hes not had a problem in the 4 years hes been wearing these so i would like to stick with it. My farrier charges £80 a set with the heart bars, as opposed to £55 a set normally. I was thinking then of saying to a loaner that i would pay £25 per shoeing to help cover the cost of the heartbars. Is this normal?
- I would like monthly visits- again, is this normal- or a bit stalkerish?
Anything else that i havent thought about that might not be in the standard agreement? Many thanks
