My friend bought one that was a spinner. She was too much for the seller's teenage girl. But she did not sell in the ring so my friend went and did a deal out of the ring. A couple of months of work and she was hunting her but that was about 5 years ago. Not sure about the quality of the animals going through at the moment as I havent been for years.
Is this the sales at York livestock centre or a rufforth? Friends of mine bought a nice ex-racer from York sale (livestock centre) which was a lovely little thing (I picked it up for them) and they re-schooled it, made it in to a nice riding horse and sold him on. I guess there are some bargains to be had if you can spot them. They worked for racing yards though so knew a fair few people and knew what was what when it came to racers.
we have had 7 from York, the 3 little section A's were a little lean but every one of the horses were emaciated (thats why we bought them, sympathy!!) All have turned out ok but it would be nice to know their real history rather than the rubbish we were told!
The place is a hell hole! Nothing is what it says in the catalogue and most have fake passports. Look at it this way..if you had a lovely sound, straight horse, that you had to sell in a hurry, would you really take it there? Doubt it!! If you had one that was no longer sound, etc, etc, but had been a good servant to you, would you take it there? If the answer to any of these was yes, then you dont deserve to have horses! The percentage of 'riding' horses entered here that are dodgy is unbelievably high! The only horses/ponies that would be more likely to be genuine, would be the youngstock. They would only be either emaciated or badly handled! Don't buy out of pity though, because thats what keeps a place like this going. It needs closing down. The Trading Standards Officers that work there just can;t keep up with all the issues, there are that many. Bad, bad place!
