Hi guys, I need your expert shopping skills please!

My 17 year old pony, Cosmo, has spent this winter in a stupid rug which is too big for him. I am looking for a turnout for him and will consider anything between a 200 - 300g filling. I can't remember what weight rug he's in now (eek!) and the label has rubbed off but I know he's happy in it. It's definitely no more than 300g and he's a seriously furry little monster so I think he'd cope just fine in anything from 200g up. He requires a 4'9", the sturdier the better as he lives out 24/7, and a standard neck.

I was hoping to spend no more than £40 (tall order, I know!) and I tried the Robinsons Rug Rummage but was a bit late getting there and anything suitable has gone in his size!

Thanks!

PS. My mum told me I'm not allowed to dress him in pink. :P

I got one from Rainbow Equestrian for my oldie - but i can't remember how much it was!! It wouldn't have been a huge amount though. Or have you tried ebay - there are lots of rug bargains on there!??

I think protuff might be reasonably priced too. Premier Equine rugs are AMAZING but a bit pricier. But they do have lots on their sale pages so there might be something in your budget there?

Thanks for the suggestions. I am usually great at finding stuff online but just can't seem to find quite the right thing with 4'9" still available. Ebay just had a few more expensive ones.

I guess it's a silly time to buy one now (as it will soon warm up... we hope) but the other horses got new rugs and I really want him to have one which fits comfortably. Perhaps I just like spending? Plus nothing is more pleasing than buying a new rug.

Our local saddlery chain millbryhill.co.uk had a rug sale on the other day i think - it might be worth checking their website. Also Derby House has a bit sale on at mo.

I think it might be a good time to buy as everyone is offloading their winter stock in preparation for spring... though like CF said - sod's law always plays a part.

ooh, can you stretch for a couple of quid more? Beg, borrow or steal - Premier Equine have such a great sale at the mo, and the rugs are soooo fabulous, you won't regret it - they last well too so you might save a few quid in the long run.

Hehe, thanks. He was my 4th birthday present (I think) and we had him as a bubba but he never really grew much. I grew out of him very quickly, plus he was a nutter, but we loved him too much to sell him on. A few people have had him on loan to do things with him but they always abandon their plans in the end!!

I will definitely take a look at all your suggestions so thanks a lot.

I agree that it might be sensible to look at some more costly ones as they're often worth the quality, I just struggle to abandon my student frame of mind. :P
