The weather, not me!!

How is everyone fairing? It is quite scary on our shropshire hillside - I have turned out as normal but am keeping a close eye on the boys, and no riding today, but understand Scotland and the North are having it worse?

its been clocked at 115 km/hr here this morning, I can hear the slates rattling on the roof and noticed some have moved - hope they hold out, its supposed to settle this afternoon and the sun come out - oh and then freeze overnight - the joys
 
Extremely windy here. Lots of branches, bins and other light objects down and blowing all over the place. Hope it doesn't last long!

It's horrendous here - really heavy rain, and wind that you have to lean into to get anywhere. Shy is having a duvet day, as he hates being out in weather like this. Useless native, haha !!

Oh and they say that it is going to get much worse as the day goes on.
 
Goldenstar I am in north yorkshire- the wind was that strong at one point I couldn't get out of the barn if I had wanted too as I coouldn't open the door!!
 
North East Scotland, my drive this morning to feed the horses saw wheelie bins racing me down the road, rubbish and debris everywhere (like playing Super Mario without the moustaches), and two fallen trees on the roads on the way there. Once there, no power, everything flooded. All the nicely stacked jump wings are EVERYWHERE. Took all my strength not to lose the gates when opening and closing, and buckets turned into parachutes that literally pulled me off my feet. Snow/hail was blown so strong into my face I look like I've had a chemical peel.

Horses are out in the field, bums into the wind merrily eating haylage. My horse is in a rug with a filet string, no leg straps, and it is still secure in place. Wheelbarrows, not so much...

The bad thing is that I was supposed to fly to London tonight to stay with friends for a week - my one weeks' holiday all year, and this hits. All the flights are being cancelled. Am gutted.
 
Pretty awful here in North Yorkshire - have lost two trees in the garden already.
We turned out first thing and then brought the ones that weren't dealing with it well back in. My boy is out with his mate and they were both bum-to-the-wind eating happily when I left. It's quite noisy in their boxes (asbestos sheet roof) so they are probably as well left out. Will review at lunchtime to see how they are coping. Mine is unclipped and hairy so made for this weather and his fieldmate is finer and clipped but well rugged up.
 
Northunmberland here I can't walk outside , I got bucked off on Tuesday and just can't stay upright in it as my back is very sore .
Feeling bad for my groom she's mucked out as best she can and is going to but in loads of haylage and shut everything up .
Going to check she ok in a mo.
 
It's horrible here. The horses are out and happy but I brought them in as usual for their breakfast. I hate windy weather and was singing to myself 'I like windy weather, I like windy weather' as an attempt to mask my anxiety whilst I led them in!

I think it worked as they just gave me pitying looks!
 
Not sure of temperature here but the wind seems to be settling a little! Overcast here and spitting a little but there's a bit of sunshine too!

We've lost a roof slate (newish roof and very well constructed) and the whole roof off a portakabin, and there's rubbish everywhere (we were getting a skip for it this week...too late now it will take me weeks to collect off the fields and track) :-((

However the electric is still on and the wind has dropped a bit.. Unfortunately it's been replaced by blizzards.

Horses are in and are staying in. Only cos we had a field shelter put up this year and so I don't want them out in this level of wind until I've seen that it stays put on this first trial of extreme weather. It is however designed with gales in mind, it has 12 inch wind slats at the top of the back wall to let the power of the wind through and extra heavy construction. So far so good on that one.

farm collies are bored as they are in a kennel inside the barn which is smaller than their outdoor kennels and runs. But will prob move them back to outdoor ones shortly, snow or no snow.

I never thought of it .
I will post the cautionary tale when I get my brain round it.

Wind is still strong here (I'm in Deeside!) AND snow now too. So at the moment my window is a whiteout. Haven't been back out since doing the horses this morning... staying inside in the warm!! getting lots of flickering lights though so don't know how long power will keep going...
 
It's telling me it's 9 degrees on my desktop at work! It was really, really horrible the early hours of this morning and when I got up at 6 to turn the horses out and muck out etc it still hadn't died down. I felt bad turning them out, they just stood there looking surprised, they'd been tucked up in big straw beds peacefully about 2 minutes before! There's only hedges and and a very high wall (field is on the outside of a walled garden) so not worried about any trees coming down or anything like that and the wall provides good shelter from the wind. It is dry though although BBC is forecasting rain shortly :(

From what I can hear, it sounds like the wind has died down a little from what it was this morning. It sounds like other places in the UK are having it much worse!
 
Beautiful sunshine and a bit blustery in Kent. Good Luck northerners. My advice is don't bother sweeping today (it will just blow back in your face) :)
 
Not nice at all here in Yorkshire, managed to walk one out who is recovering from laminitis for the usual 30 minutes this morning but she didn't look at all impressed and her visit to the forge for next set of glue on shoes had to be cancelled, daren't drive the box in these winds. Others are out, babies in rugs with fillet strings on and they're still in place and horses seem calm and happily eating but they were fairly on their toes when we put them out due to all the stuff blown around. Rain seems to be clearing up a bit now, but very cold in that wind, yuk.

My lecturer was due to fly in from London so I now have a day off!! Very glad I am not working today though as the showjumpers do not like the wind up their tails. Have also just noticed it is now a blizzard... such fun you'd think sitting in a glass box library I would notice these things.
 
It's very windy here, and getting a bit dark outside, but other than that, so far, so good.
My hubby has just spoken to his mum who lives in Great Yarmouth, and they have just been told they must evacuate (live very close to river Yare and not far from sea) to his uncle's place at Martham (inland) as the authorties are very concerned about damage occuring when high tide hits at about 10pm tonight.
